Castello di Bossi Chianti Classico Gran Selezione

It’s been 16 months since my last bottle, and sadly I’m still unimpressed. It has some basic aged Chianti notes, rather heavy oak / vanilla flavors, high alcohol (14.5%), but lacking any real complexity or finish. Pleasant enough, but for $35 or $40 I wouldn’t buy it again.

Mellan mörk och medel rubin. Tunna gardiner (14,5 procent). Medelstor doft med körsbär och blå plommon. En hint kola och aningen kritig mineral. Aningen under medelfylligt. Hög syra och kännbara men spretiga tanniner, märks mest framme vid tänderna och långt bak i munnen. Alltnog, rödfruktigt utan avstickare. Relativt lång eftersmak med röda bär och en liten beska. Matkrävande.

Sour cherry, velvet anis. Needs more time for depth, had the 2016 recently and it had more tones of deep cherry, sandalwood, herbs, full, high density. Will save next 2018 2 years

Certainly a nice wine, but I don’t get the effusive praise some critics have given this. Maybe it just needs more time? Flavors more savory than fruit, but I’m having a hard time breaking it down. Large grained tannins, and I’m not seeing a ton of complexity here. Maybe I’m just missing something.

Several hours post-decant: Beautiful nose of sweet black cherries, new leather, blackberry, hot stones and spice. Med-full bodied, thisbis rich and round on the palate. Loaded with sweet red and black fruits with abundant spice. Liquid minerals and just enough oak. Delicious on its own or with food, drink now-2031 93
