Not decanted, but opened about 2 hours before tasting. Very savoury. Medium bodied with lots of earthy currant and plum fruit. Nicely balanced but not with sweet fruit, earth, medium fruit and tobacco and wood notes on the finish. Very nice, but suffered against an excellent aged cabernet from WA. Update from night two. For sure benefited from the extra aeration in the bottle overnight. Not a massive change but just enough to showcase the complexity and tertiary notes this …

Birthday dinner at Etch to match with a Venison entree. Decanted 2 hours ahead. Flowers, earth dark fruits and a bit of tobacco on the nose. Medium to medium plus body with good acid structure. Dark fruits, with secondary notes of leather and earth on the palate.Nice finish. I think that this is in a great place where it should remain for perhaps 10 years. Purchased as futures and stored at 55 degrees. 93 points.

Light sediment. Some browning on the edges showing the maturity of the wine. Some tannins and a good accompaniment for grilled beef steak.

At a perfect drinking plateau with classic Margaux violet floral notes, seamless blend of dark fruit, graphite, acidity and soft tannin. First place at a shootout tasting of Margaux 10 years old or older.

I shared this with my wine group at a Bordeaux tasting. Even using a Durand, the cork came apart and part of it got stuck in the bottle, we had to push it into the wine, the decant through a filter. The wine sat in the decanter for an hour before we drank it. Surprisingly it drank very well. Everyone enjoyed it. Long finish. Medium bodied. Notes of charcoal and/or graphite and lavender.

Dark red color. PNP, drank a couple glasses over 3 hours at the ranch. The noses shows mainly funk, horse barn, and saddle leather, with touches of pencil shavings and more subtle dried flowers and a sauvage like character. The palate is showing nice fruits up front, though this faded substantially over a couple hours; inky blackberry, plum and black currants, grainy and simewhat rustic tannin, glycerin, blackberry liqueur, pepper, woody finish and a bit astringent on the finish. This …

Dekantert 6 timer, men det hjalp ikke. Ubalanse, mye syre, men grei. Langt bedre dag 3, balanse, herlig frukt, helt på plass.

Dekantert. Ikke lenge nok, for den kom ikke helt til seg selv før glass 4. Da sang den, balanse, herlig frukt, pen syre og tanniner. Stort glass dag 2, også meget pen til en lammegryte.

Dekantert. Motvillig start. Varer en stund. Kommer etterhvert. Bedre dag 2. Tror dette er en dag-2-vin.

Very dar red color. Decanted and drank a glass plus over 3 hours. Nicely funky, saddle leather, earthy, cassis, dark berries, full bodied, fine grain tannins, full bodied, good length. Showed very well with the air.

Dekantert lenge perfekt balanse,, pen frukt og nok syre for å ivareta energien. Tanninene er der såpass at dette blir en herrevin. Siste glass dag 3 absolutt best, herlig er vel ordet jeg leter etter.

Drinking lovely right now. I think I might prefer this stage vs more age.

Dekantert. Et lite glass dag 1, pent, pumpa og kjøleskap, svært imøtekommende dag 2, tilnærma perfekt balanse, nydelig frukt, og pen nok syre til å ivareta energien. Dette er gøy.

Pretty Margaux violets within the bouquet and in the fore palate, this is cute, serious, and stern at the same time. Its got some serious structure and some serious material developing underneath as the the tobacco and loam make their debut with warming in my glass. Now its really just a matter of preference on how aged you like your Bordeaux. Noticeable secondary notes with much more in the gas tank to keep evolving into the same direction in exchange …

Part of a 2008 to 2010 red wine dinner with my wine group, this might have been the group favorite. Opened, but not decanted for over 45 minutes before pouring. Nicely balanced with no one element standing out. Medium bodied, with a medium+ length finish.

This was ok, big minus for midpalate, where it kind of vanished after a powerful entry. It was simply an unbalanced experience, with power and promise on nose and entry but then fell short.

Still very young and liveley. Fresh black current, acid and smooth tannins still with a grip. Well structured with good balance.

2008 was a good but not great vintage with a perfect fall and low yields. The wine is clear, deep bulls blood in the glass with heavy sediment. The nose jumps from the glass with juicy red berries, earth, cola and smoked meat. More elegant than expected from a Cabernet dominant wine. Lovely palate. Balanced and integrated with fine tannins. Flavours of earth and cedar with just a hint of fruit. Excellent length. Drink now.

From a 6 L bottle. Opened and partially decanted (2 normal sized decanters) for an hour before pouring. The decanters were refilled as needed as the bottle is too big to pour into glasses with the risk of major spillage. I have seen this vintage called a "lesser" vintage, but for me, this was a great wine, and I may be shorting it a point. Spices, fruit mixed with a medium body, moderate tannins, and a medium+ length finish, made …

What a pleasant surprise. My fourth vintage from this chateau, prevously 1998, 2007 and 2010, but this is the best vintage to date. Fruity but not fruit forward and with nice oak, which needs 3-5 more years to integrate. On the fulller side. Very nice. Pnp.

As we all know, lesser vintages like 2008 can still produce strong efforts, often at a good QPR. The '08 Malescot St. Exupery is one of those efforts. Opened several hours before dinner (no decant, served with Wagyu - Minute Steak). Nose - complex, wild berries, truffle, pine, earth. Intriguing. Mouth - medium to light bodied, silky tannins, ripe plum, strawberries, nutmeg. Good depth, complexity and length, despite the relatively light body. Very tasty and a superb match for a …
