Decidedly opaque black cherry color, with reddish rim. We prefer to allow the wine to open in the glass, without decanting. The freshly opened wine presents with densely packed aromas of blackberry, blueberry, strawberry, and a scintilla of candied plum, with an initial emerging bouquet of graphite and pencil shavings. The wine promises to show more complexity as the evening ensues, and likely expanding its profile boundaries with dinner. The medium ++ viscosity mouthfeel conveys velvety tannins supporting dusty, still …

We really enjoy Silver Oak but haven’t had an aged bottle in some time. This was lovely when opened and continued to improve as it was decanted. Really mellowed out and easy to drink. Probably not an upside from here but should drink in this window for another few years.

Dado Banatao remembrance (Menlo Park, CA) : (blind) Dark ruby, not much rim variation, which is surprising given my glimpse of the lineup showed a lot of older Bordeaux's. Notable sediment. On the nose, this has some sawdust and new oak. Verging into mulched sawdust, it also has notes of ripe cassis jam on the palate. It's ripe with elevated alcohol, maybe 14.5% (14.2%). It has medium tannins and some pyrazines, lighter dark bell pepper pyrazines. This feels like a …

Nose is of softer red fruit variety with faint hints of black fruits. Smell a bit of earthiness Taste is super Feminine for a cali cab. Soft an subtle. Very approachable I drank immediately upon opening. The taste lingers but it’s still super soft. Never overdone at any point. Tannins are drying but they are very evident because the acidity coats the mouth amazingly. Great freaking job. Salute. 30 min later the wine is harmonious. It’s flows on an off …

A very average wine in my opinion. Totally not worth the money. Grade of B minus. Bottle was properly stored.

Garnett color, clearer than anticipated . Spice & cedar dominate the scents. Plum, cranberry are brightest flavors. 40 sec. finish of dried cherries and stone

I decanted a magnum for 2 hrs before serving. It just didn’t have much structure, was pretty muted and basic. Just an okay Cab, was not worth the Mag price at the Vineyard. Many other wines much better

Loved the wine probably one of the best tasting wine we had here at home. I had it since June 2016

Disagreeing with a few comments earlier. The fruit is still there - bought it at the vineyard last December. Perhaps better cellaring at SO Alexander Valley?. Drinking well now with a nice dill note found in this region. Minerally, harmonious tannins and a medium mouthfeel. Nice!

I have to agree with some of the other reviews....the fruit at this stage just seems gone. Not as full bodied as you would expect from Silver Oak....maybe I missed the drinking window on this one (and the 11 others I still have).

As usual, a very nice Cab from Silver Oak. It paired very well with a couple of filets from the charcoal grill that I smoked with some cherry wood chips.

This classic often gets denigrated but it’s a really delightful cab. We cellared this well and it returned the favor.

Might have been an off bottle; the fruit seemed cooked, and that made the oak stand out far too much. I am hopeful this was flawed.

Disappointing especially given postings of older vintages drinking well, not sure if this was a bad bottle or just past its prime. Very little fruit left, what was left was cooked blackberry / stewed black plum. Secondary and tertiary flavors of leather, smoke chard wood and smoke predominated. Wished I'd opened it 2-3 years earlier.

Very nice cab. I would not give it higher rating despite its age. 11 years old, I would have expected its tannins to have smoothed out more than it has. I don’t know if more age is the answer or not.

Mellowed significantly after 20-30 minutes. Very peppery. Surprisingly good. Not usually a fan of Silver Oak, but this was smooth and easier to drink. First sip was too overwhelming. Pepper and earthy tones. Drank on Christmas Eve.

Jen’s birthday, she loved it. Delicious, very smooth, tannins integrated, bell pepper not overpowering, chocolate and some smoke later on. Glad we didn’t await any longer.

Probably missed the prime drinking time. Certain fruit notes like cherry blackberry are hard to pick up and the additional vanilla added by time is prominent. Not a bad thing at all and the complexity you want on a ten year Cab is present. I will say however that the tannins are more abrasive then is comfortable, and the first half glass can be harsh, this is after an hour and some change of decanting. After that however, it really …
