A compelling proposition for the ageing qualities of the Barossa, GSM blends and particularly this middle-ranked representative of the Rockford bastion of tradition. To paraphrase EC (Slowhand), it looked wonderful tonight, from the first snort. Good colour still. Burnt brown shade to a dark core, advanced brick rim. A time capsule on the nose, of an older school style. Dusty camphor/old wooden chest drawers initially, with an enticing bitter/sweet high note emerging. Dried figs, sour cherry, amaro, malty notes, no …

Lovely colour and flavour - but not a strong lingering palate. Still a great food wine

Purchased direct from winery. Very good cork, great nose. Colour deep red and appealing. Mouthfeel full and rich, although not as silky as I recall from previous bottles of this wine and vintage. Taste of cherry and some vanilla, lingering spicy/ peppery aftertaste. Delicious wine.

Perhaps just on the cusp this one? A lot lighter than expected based on previous vintages but still pleasant enough.

Deep garnet. Lot of plum and blackberry fruit, some red cherry. A savoury, leathery edge. Soft tannins, fair acidity. medium length. Surprisingly elegant though plenty alcohol in fact. well made, interesting wine.

Double decanted 2h prior to tasting. Good nose and excellent damson/cherry fruit tempered by damson skin acidity. Spicy, soft, and long with vanilla oak. New to me and really very good. Tasted at Grand Union Wine Society with Scott Edge of Negociants UK.

Ghastly. The cherry coke of wine. Up front smooth fruity fruit with nothing serious, savoury or natural about it. What is the wine society doing calling this a first growth of Australian wine?

If you were going to discuss cult Australian wineries Rockford would undoubtedly be one of the first names that comes to mind. This iconic Barossa producer is most well known for it's basket press and single vineyard wines, but does produce other wines of note, with the Moppa Spring GSM being one. The wine is a deep red that is moving towards brick red around the rim, the nose is complex and layered with blackberry, olive and slightly richer plum …

Beautiful Ruby/Garnet in the glass. Slightly foggy suggesting it was unfiltered. Nose was very expressive with lots of berry fruit and a surprising amount of florality. A small amount of pepper and game but mostly supple fruit. Cherry cola. The palate is soft yet bright. Very pleased with the level of acidity - balances the ripe fruit. Delicate tannins, they have definitely softened. Full but not overwhelming body and once again the alcohol is in check despite being 14.5%. Long, …

I enjoyed this wine. Bright and fresh with some Grenache barkiness and earthy undertones.

A day at Rockford with David Kalleske (Rockford winery, Tanunda) : Classic grenache, a bit fruit driven with limited minerals, which I think is needed in a Grenache to give it the elegance and structure it needs. OK wine, but not on par with the Shiraz made in this house.

Mid/light red, spicy, Grenache driven nose, confected red berries, and liqueur lollies. Mid weight, plush palate. Good length. Opens up nicely over several days. Now to 2015.
