Lovely aged Cabernet. Still plenty of fruit, but some lovely secondary and tertiary character.

Probably past its best but still a nice wine. Not a huge body remaining, modest fruit, soft in the mouth and not too acidic.

Dry, lots of colour, quite drinkable, but perhaps past its best

Picked up for a song. Very distinctive aged coonawarra aromas, leafy and a little minty but full of substance. Nice structure with the oak integrated well. Almost port like raisin-y notes to the finish, and a great length to it. Not entirely faded to my taste, but if I had any more of these I'd be drinking them up.

NobleRottersSydney - Best Oz vintages 90-02 (Alio's, Surry Hills) : [13%, cork,] {DavidC} Double-decanted a few hours before. Could have sworn this was McLaren Vale shiraz; big, aged nose of vanilla and spice. Even unveiled, I can’t find real cabernet character here. Once strong tannins have faded to a light dusty presence, it’s medium-bodied but with a distinct hollowness on the mid-palate. Anonymous, generic ‘old-wine’ flavours. Soft acid too. Needs drinking. Unrecongisable as the same wine from last year, and …

NobleRottersSydney - Cabernet prior to 2001 (Alio's, Surry Hills) : [cork, 13%] {Gordon} Double-decanted about 2 hours prior to drinking. Big, almost sweet, curranty nose. Not really shouting ‘coonawarra’, being comparitively ripe and luscious, but maybe that’s the vintage. Does retain a vestige of herbal, bracken-like notes however. The palate is dry, and in the old St George style, has rather stronger tannins than the rest of the wine can reasonably sustain. It has medium intensity of flavour, and medium …

Still richly coloured with little in the way of age evident at the rim. On the nose, a decent blend of blackcurrant and brambly fruit, together with some agreeable green pepper. On the palate, relatively full with still good fruit, yet with good balance from the nicely judged acidity and residual tannins. Reasonably long, albeit is there really that much complexity. Good, maybe very good, but not punching too far above it's weight.
