This was really impressive Chardonnay from Hemel-en-Aarde. Made in a richer style but nothing out of place. It also had a slightly funky aroma, which initially had me wondering if it was a bit corked, but didn't get any of that on the palate. If anything, it made it more interesting. Anyone else have this experience or know what it might be? I was quite confounded.

Very much the fashionable Burgundian style of New World Chardonnay. Flashy lemon scented orchard fruits with a bit of fat, but also nice freshness and acidity on the finish. There is an immediacy here that is very enjoyable, but also a certain depth lacking and for the price I can get much better value elsewhere.

Small tasting glass @ VINEUM during service, so a brief note. Floral nose, with ripe pear and peach fruit as well. In the taste fruit again, as well as citrus. Pretty concentrated but lively still...A wink to the Côte de Beaune!
