Musty, funk, moss, Carmel, stewed green tomatoes, some hint of stewed venison. At the 1 hour decant. Initial aroma gassy, and off putting. By the second taste there was something there but not enough to where we drank it. By the 2.5-3 hour mark it started hitting, and was George Clinton uptown funk good.

The wine looks crimson colored. The legs are medium. There is heavy sediment in the bottle. It smells like forest floor, peach and raspberry. It tastes like plum, black currant (cassis), blackberry, oak and tobacco. The body is medium. The wine has polished texture. The wine finishes long. The wine has medium acidity.

Well developed with aromas of damped earth, cedar tree, leather and ripe plum. Nice and balanced acidic structure with good length.

Second bottle. The previous one was past its prime, but this one was drinking surprisingly well.

Best p duft, tobakk, edelt trevirke, modem. Litt slankere i munn, muligens litt p hell. Ikke like fresh som forrige flaske.

Lang kork i god forfatning har holdt flasken tett. Ut i to deler. Nederste del gjennumtrukket. Mrk mursteinsrd. Lett brun/orange litt vandig kant. Lukt av sorte br og solbr. Alderen kan merkes p lukten, mose, skogsbunn minner om gammel vinkjeller. God i munnen. Flyelsemyk smak av mrke br. Ingen tanniner igjen, men fortsatt levende. Velbalansert. Kjempe lang ettersmak. Drukket uten matflge. En meget god vin. Sank litt sammen etter noen timer.

Very tired bottle. Decanted with a lot of fine-grained sediments. Initially just after opening the nose is not very pleasant: dusty cellar, sweet tobacco and an odd smell that reminds me of rotten seaweed. After two hours of air it improves quite a lot, and now I find dried fruits, cedar and hints of vanilla. Thin mouthfeel with fine-grained mature tannins, good acidity, and non-excistent fruit. Good lenght, but unfortunately the taste is not very inspiring. Way over the top …

Stv og kjeller rett etter pning. Etter litt tid en mer fyldig smak. Mrk og kraftig og overmoden. God lengde. Ville ikke kjpt om igjen til 521 kr.

Kirsebr, fiol, lett tobakk, flyelsmyke tanniner, kanskje p vei over toppen men fortsatt flott vin.

Really a question of what you prefer. In my book well beyond its prime but in all fairness still drinking well. Lacking some fruit, but not more than experiencing good balance in the wine with a fair length in the finish. Tobacco and cedar in focus, some plum like elements adding up to a complex picture, but lacks the refinement, elegance and sappy elements found with the big ones. A nice view into a 30 year old wine. At the …

Opened and poured a small glass. Intentionally skipped the decant with the intention of letting it open up over a few hours. Initially, a ever-so-slightly cloudy medium red in color. Little, if any, initial nose; perhaps some cedar. First sip was pretty rough, second sip was smoky, tobacco. After an hour, the tobacco was still present but cedar notes were detectable. After two hours, tar flavors came up. Still, good with a long finish.

Leather and mushrooms on the nose, silk in the mouth. Little fruit left, but oh so complex.

Had a glass at a wine bar tonight... A lot of heat on the nose at first, but it dissipated after some time in the glass. Interesting impression of a younger, greener wine on the nose and the palate. Interesting wine...

Quite evolved and probably way over the top. Smells of coffe, tobaco and hints of broth. Dried strawberries. More interesting than a very good wine.

Decanted and drank at the House of Prime Rib in SF. Definitely needed the decanting, first sip was off, but giving time to breath, wine was wonderful with dinner (Prime Rib), and may have gotten better with up to 2 hours of decant time. Classic aged Bordeaux, no fruit left, but smooth with leather, tobacco, and a touch of pepper. Would drink within the next few years.

Again I was very impressed with the longevity of this wine. I knew from my previous bottle that it's critical to let it breathe in a decanter for at least 2 hours. I then put it back in the bottle. Aroma and flavor profile of decaying wood, cedar, mushrooms, and leather. After another 1 - 2 hours back in the bottle, I'm sensing the essence of honey. This wine has been very reliable over the past year. If you want …

Subtle hints of vanilla, smoke, and honey, with more pronounced cedar. Very well structured, the fruit is fading if it was ever there, but that's not a bad thing for aged Bordeaux drinkers (the Bordeaux being aged, not necessarily the drinker). Tannins are firm. Not as much bricking as I would expect from a 27 year old wine. Probably has 10 more good years left, although Parker believed its prime ended in 2010 and is drinkable until 2018. Allow to …

Very good. Fruit completely gone, leaving cedar, tobacco and silky elegance. Good balance, good length... just nice all-round. In truth, starting to fade and thin out a bit, which knocks the score down a bit. Not in imminent danger of being undrinkable by any means though. Just that if you have still some in storage, yet to be drunk, enjoy yourself relatively soon!

Acadmie des Cinquante Saint-Emilion Tasting (De Echoput, Hoog Soeren, Netherlands) : Tobacco, eucalyptus, hint of pickle, fully mature, a bit tired. Perhaps not a perfect bottle?
