A killer Santorini in what could be a long drinking plateau. A little yeasty (spontaneous ferment) tone upon opening but that integrated with a bit of air and it became extremely focused. Powerfully ashen, salty, soil-driven palate. Long. Don't over-chill.

fun crowd pleaser but not super distinct varietelly. tasted at Grand Cru in Baltimore juicy rich lemon and lime. lots of tropical stone fruit. white peach, orange peel, sweet honeysuckle and everpresent slate minerality. body has nice weight and just enough acid. hint of residual sugar or impression of sweetness will make this a hit with riesling of vouvray fans but it's racy enough for SB and PG lovers. good summer wine.

Excellent! Vermentino-ish aroma but slightly herbal, minerally. Medium body, bracing acidity, minerally finish. Like a good southern Italian white with even more attitude. Great wine but not for the tourists ;-)

Agreed on the gunflint in the nose - which I am not into here. Grapefruit, but also a bit of paint thinner on the nose too. Apple acids and rather flat. Short finish, slightly oily. I am in the minority of hip wine drinkers, but this varietally is almost dull to me as it weasels out of the promises of interest. Much prefer the barreled version.

Pre Christmas Dinner at The Ledbury (The Ledbury, London) : On the plus side this is a good and easy drinking wine. On the minus though it lacks all the hallmarks that make assyrtiko a great grape variety. The acidity is not there, the minerality is on the average side and lacks that firm structure that we expected. The light addition of oak here just makes the wine a bit average and forgettable. 88 at best

Yiannis' 7/3 review is spot on - Yellow with greenish hue. Wet stones, flint and grapefruit. Oily, angular and a little hot on the back of the throat, needs to be served slightly chilled to be enjoyed. Very long, slightly clumsy finish. Decanting did this a world of good.

Nose is rather muted, on the palate it has the typical Santorini flint minerality and citrus fruit. Slightly coarse at the moment, I think it needs a couple of years to come around.

Fairly dark gold with intense green hues. Explosive minerality, like smelling volcanic ash with citrus undertones. Medium-bodied, with high acidity and minerality overpowering the fruit. Very long aftertaste. Enjoyable in ts own right.

Oct. 3rd Genka Wine Fair - Argyros "Estate" & "Barrel" 2005-2009 Vertical: Nose is rough, mineral, crushed limestone and flint, grassy herbaceousness. Powerful wine, crispy, chalky texture. Lemony aftertaste and toast (this wine has only 10% oak). 2007 was one of the roughest Santorini's but has structure to age.

Santorini Wine Dinner : lots of sulfur upon opening, and also the smoke and weird legume thing of Santorini Assrytiko. on day three there are peas, lemons, smoke and mineral and there is sea spray on the finish - very expressive, to say the least. the palate shows in a much higher register than i was expecting based on the nose, and the lemon spritz is palpable. this one really needs a grilled fish.

Delicious, another one of the highlights in the Santorini lineup. Loved the smoky gunpowder aroma even if we couldn't figure out whether it's just sulfurous or a more fundamental property of the wine. Either way it stayed with the wine over time and gave it that extra level of intrigue on top of its pure racy fruit.

This wine is at its prime right now, but its liveliness indicates that it will drink nicely for at least 10 more years vor so. Straw-yellow. Mineral, chalky aromas, limestone and grapefruit on the nose. Mid-bodied, round with all the components in perfect harmony. High but beautifully integrated acidity. Long finish. This is the cuvee labelled simply "Assyrtico" and it is tank fermented and sees no oak, in conntrast to this producer's "Santorini", which is partially matured in oak and the "Santorini barrel" which is barrel fermented and 100% matured in oak. This is still an exciting wine for me...made from 100% Assyrtiko. The nose is difficult to describe. It reminds me of a smoky sea breeze with a faint hint of white flowers and fresh linen. In the mouth bracing minerality leads into citrus notes and a razor sharp acidic finish that begs to be paired with shellfish.

Wow...My white wine of the night at the local wine shop tasting! What a lovely nose...there was layers of differing floral notes and subtle hints of exotic fruits like Kiwi, star fruit, and mango. In the mouth this was pleasant and simple, but the finish lingers just long enough to pull together everything in a nice package.
