Out of magnum. Started out on the lean side with a firm mineral streak through the gossamer midpalate. The nose promised an abundance of sweet red fruit laced with gentle oak spices and a lovely Pinot vinosity of sage fallen leaves, and savory base notes. After about 2 hours the wine truly began to open, gaining weight, sweetness, and length to the slightly lifted finish. It's just past peak in all likelihood, but still was delicious and improved for another …

This pours light ruby in the glass with the faintest hint bricking. The nose is of cranberry, orange oil, peonies, beetroot, airy moist pine grove, menthol cigarette, flowering mixed herbs, and strawberry. The palate enters on pure citrus tinged red fruit with cranberry and strawberry leading, turning to medium plus acid and low tannin. The finish closes very pleasantly replaying the orange oil and strawberry elements. All in all, this is very nice stuff, and aging slowly. While not terribly …

Felt was a bit too acidic and lacked fruit. Uncorked and drank - perhaps would have been better with a good decant.

from magnum. PnP. Delightful, elegant and refined. Some sweet black cherries introduce a savory, complex palate with some spices and crushed rocks. l found this vibrant and nuanced, but others felt it was too light with restrained fruit. Definitely at a perfect drinking age!

Light, translucent red in color. A pretty strawberry nose. Lush, sweet red fruit, strawberry, bit of warm spice. Picks up weight with air. Fully resolved tannins, bright acidity, great balance. Finishes long with sweet red fruits. Delicious and vibrant. No need to wait, but will probably drink well for 3 to 4 years.

short decant and got to say of the bottles I've had of this wine, this is by far the best. Very resolved with integration tannin and acid, good fruit and none of that "beet root" flavor, enough tartness to make very good wine.

1st of 2 bottles. Tart and sour red cherry fruit, with a definitive spiciness, wet gravel, licorice strands, sweet tarts, and dirt. Really nice at an unbelievable 12.4% abv...the acidity is tense and bright. Long and tangy finish, red crunchy fruit all the way. Gorgeously gritty tannins, just starting ease their grip. Lovely. Just delicious, one of the best Copain Pinot's I have had the pleasure of drinking. Drink now through 2026+.

One of my favourite California Pinots. Great maturity now. I don't know if I miss the more accentuated acidity when it was younger or not. Elegant and complex. Great wine

Cork had a streak about 3/4 the way up, so not sure if this is a completely representative bottle. Color showing some moderate bricking, there's an earthy, late fall leafy note to the nose; good intensity of fruit on the palate, more strawberry than cherry, with some sweetness that might be attributed to the vintage, or possibly a little extra air exposure through the cork, or maybe just the way the wine is at its age. Acidity is a bit …

Initially thought it was in an awkward stage but with an hour or so of air it really started to shine. Light ruby in the glass and looks like it could still be aged another decade. These hit a sweet spot for me between Burgundy and Most California fruity Pinot. It has some earthy funk, baking spice, and delicious red fruits. Still some of my favorite Cali Pinot!

Drank over two days. I actually preferred day 1, as it was less lean. However, both days showed an acidic/tart core, along with thin palate (raspberry, sour cherry, steminess) that did not particularly appeal to me. I prefer more earthiness and less lithe, high-note, pinots. But, this is well-made (as Copain always are). I much prefer Wells' syrahs.

My final bottle of 10 Tree, with a good window of 3 years since the last. What I appreciate about CT is that guys like an Alan Rath will post impressions, which really help. Whereas I don't care about the score, what I do know is Alan's palate and so his recent TN was all I needed to help me choose a PN for tonight. Thanks a lot, Alan and to his credit, his TN is spot-on. This wine is …

Fairly dark garnet color, just some slight lean toward brick red; a lightly sweet floral nose, palate is on the bright side, with a mix of darker raspberry/strawberry fruit, just enough seamless acidity, and a hint of fine grained tannins. Very pleasant and drinkable, though not showing a lot of complexity or interest.

For me, it's interesting to see how this wine has changed since my last tasting 5+ years ago in August 2013 (see tasting note posted earlier). Tonight, ruby color with aromas of mostly strawberry with some apple and a hint of spice. Raspberry aromas developed after 2+ hours, as did asian spice aromas. Strawberry flavor on the palate. The wine has a smooth texture, with medium body and a short-medium finish. No sediment whatsoever. I have 1 more bottle, and …

I will allow myself to quote egh's note below: "Drinking beautifully. Pure, bright, tangy, moderately proportioned, lithe, and showy/open knit with notions of red apple, red cherry, raspberry, citrus zest, and spice cake." It is really spot on except for two things: I think this wine was so good I am actually rating it 93! -And it was served next to a Burgundy and German Pinot; in this context the notes were slightly candied and revealing of the new world …

Reuniting with this wine about four years down the line, however out of 3L this time, served as the dinner wine for my 37th. Much as I remember it, with slightly tart dark red fruit retaining good freshness and never cloying (very rare in CA Pinot), along with good earth accents. Has a medium+ body, and a deeper pinot feel than the low abv would indicate. Perhaps I should've held this a decade or so longer, but it showed well …

I gotta hand it to both EGH and PJHR, as they continue to do an excellent job of capturing notes on the Copain wines. They both precede me here, and I would agree with the their perspectives they posted. What did strike yesterday about this bottle was the prominent acidity. I didn't find that level of it when I posted my TN in Sept 2015. Blueberry, red apple, soil, cherry and lots of tartness that remains. No shortage here of …

Had this over two nights, best on 1st day, initially PnP. Elegant and finessed with notes of strawberry, red apple, tangerine rind, mineral, earth and spice. Tannins were well integrated and fully resolved, matched by crisp acidity and ended on a silky finish. This was a fabulous PN, nicely balanced and in complete harmony with all of its components.

Very nice, elegant Pinot. It is a light, clear ruby colored. There's a little bit of bricking. The body follows they appearance. Fruit is restrained with minerality and garrique driving a wave of flavors under the fruit. Unfortunately, this wine is quite acidic and gave me marked heartburn uncommon for Pinot. Perhaps this is why people think this wine will drink through 2035, but I don't think it will evolve that long.

This has a very elegant palate of bright red fruits, soil/earth and florals, with a very firm thread of acidity on the finish; This will likely continue to improve given the acidic backbone, but it's already a very classy expression of pinot noir with some extended air

Such an elegant Pinot at a really nice stage here. Opened as a Pop and Pour but drank over 90 minutes with friends. Cool lean fruit, some sea salt on the nose, Structure is what you'd expect from WG in Anderson Valley. He's not trying to bring big fruit into the cooler nights. This wine is elegant and expressive. Drinking well here and will for several more years.

Copain In The Backyard On A Summer Evening (My House In The South OC) : So last night when we opened this as part of a selective look into a bunch of Copain wines (mainly Kiser En Bas), this was the WOTN for a few of us, me included.
