{screwcap, 13%} Mid-yellow. Some age evident. Honeysuckle nose, lanolin, a bit sweaty. Dense palate, medium/full weight, honeysuckle, custard, squash, melon. Low/medium acidity, no oak, greasy-textured grapeskin tannins only. Dry finish, short/medium length. Hardly developed on the palate really. Probably best to keep longer & hope for transfiguration!

I found this a little atypical of the linage. Fresh, very fruit forward, juicy but almost to a fault. Not a lot of obvious development. Good fun.

Excellent Marsanne from Tahbilk. As usual it ages very well! Perfect balans, almost reminds me of a riesling. Mineral. Fleshy. Almost riesling petroleum. The wine looks yellow gold colored. There is no sediment in the bottle. It smells like lemon, orange, mango, pineapple, flint, mineral, stoniness, almond and honey. The body is medium/full. The wine has oily texture. The wine finishes long. The wine has low acidity. I would not cellar it anymore.

Light to medium body, the weight of high minerals mineral water. Still quite lean, acidic and grassy despite some toast on the nose and some slightly honeyed notes through the finish. Youthful, with the first shades of age creeping in. Salty twang through the finish goes well with the lemon juice and rind, and rockmelon fruit flavours. Watch it's evolution over the next 5 years. Lunch with the wine ark boys (Chubby Cheeks, Paddington) : Citrus, green fruits a little freshly grated ginger, stone fruit. Juicy, a little oyster shell, quite simple in this lime up but fresh and pleasing none the less.

Nose of marzipan and toffee apples. Lovely sharp acidic presence on the attack with some spicy crab cake type notes. Rich but with good lift and winning personality. At its fabulous peak now.

Much the same as the last bottle, but as might be expected with six more years under its belt, it is a medium gold, and the aged characteristics are more pronounced, it is fuller, more mature. Almost bready on the finish now. But that understated elegance aspect is still there, it's a wine that wants to whisper and asks that you please pay attention. Finely appointed.

Light, lemon curd nose. So fresh and clean. I really like this wine but it just had to be marked down in more illustrious company. How can one ever calibrate scores...

2016 vintage

What a change the screwcap makes for this wine. This bottle did not seem close to 13 years old, fresh as a daisy and only starting to develop secondary flavours. Great intensity to this wine, with some honeysuckle, buttered toast, lime and a slightly waxy texture. Healthy acidity helps make this crisp and clean tasting. Great with halibut with mango salsa, this will last many years yet (A-).

This bottling is so much more expressive than earlier vintages. Clean, light and floral. Able to last much longer but drinking well now in its pale, juvenile stage. Very good value.

My first and only bottle that I’d been sitting on a while developed very similar characteristics of aged Hunter semillon with waxy notes and a hint of smoke. There’s slight oiliness to you fruit which is still holding well My preference would lean with the reacting lime notes of semillon but this was enjoyable is holding well for those holding on to bottle and it still delivered over 3 days in the fridge.

Starting to get hints on honeysuckle and turning a golden hue. Struggles in the mid palate and finishes with an overbearing alcohol burn. Don’t think this will get much better.

Peach, pear, honeysuckle. Touch of spice and kero. Such interest and complexity. Amazing at this price point.

Medium golden in the glass. Nice freshness delivered on the nose in the form of white meadow flowers, green apple, pear and some grassy notes. Medium body, decent acid and balanced with the alcohol. Nothing overwhelming, nor impressive. Just an everyday easy-sipper.

A nicely perfumed/floral wine very similar to a number of french whites I have tasted . On the tongue it is light and airy similar once again to a light bodied unwooded french chardonnay . Some compare it to semillon but no it's not even close to a Hunter valley semillon in flavour. Light bodied, light coloured, pleasant summer wine .

Complex aromas of lime peel, apricot, waxed citrus fruit and banana. The palate has lime fruit, ripe apricot and a tangy savoury note which reminds of quality manzanilla. This bottle is quite different from my last one but even better.

2008 vintage

Pale golden colour. Nose of honeysuckle, nougat, nectarine. The palate is broad but fresh on entry with crunchy nectarine, apricot, white peach, tarrragon with lemon lift on the long finish. Still fresh and energetic. Tasted this wine in two different glasses and this showed particularly well in a bowl shaped Chardonnay wine glass.

Pale yellow color, no sign of age. Very effusive nose with myriad scents that are confirmed on first taste, but followed by overwelming acidity (and this from someone who loves acidity). After finishing a glass, we put the rest of the bottle aside for another day hoping for some balance to develop. Three days later: aggressive diesel nose, screechy bitter palate. Changing my impression from 'neutral' to 'don't like it'.

Giving nothing away at this stage. Opened up slightly on day 2 to give notes of fresh pear, but really this is not for drinking any time soon.

Last bottle of this 2008 Tahbilk Marsanne and I see that I posted on this in 2013. This wine is as young as ever . Honeysuckle on the nose with the kérosène and almond nuance. I wish I had not opened it however I am halfway down the bottle and 1 hour on I will try again to see how much further it has developed. I am truly excited.

{screwcap, 12.5%} Dense dry honeycomb and marzipan flavours; but all restrained and dry. Nougat too. Classic Tahbilk Marsanne. Dense, medium-weight structure. A fine furry residual tannin quality. Developing, but in a structurally sound way. Even on the palate, medium in length, with enough complexity to suggest this is still on the improve. Doing well; no need to hurry here.

The best aged example I’ve had in recent memory. Lots of presence and fruit but also showing middle aged honeyed citrus and spice/pepper. Should get to 15yrs no worries at all.

GMs - The Blending Sessions : Peach, musk and strawberry aromas. Palate is lighter on its feet than the 2009, there is some light honey still though but it is better balanced overall. Still reasonably simple, but I think more time will be of benefit to this vintage.

Blossom, peach, citrus, mineral, body, balance. Plenty of length but lacking a bit of intensity. Night two: Second half of bottle. Better for a night's rest, more texture and richness/power. One for the cellar, which would be no surprise to anybody. 90 or better.

Honeysuckle, ripe tropical fruit, pear, stonefruit. Nicely balanced with a good finish. Grab a few bottles and put away for 5 years.

A cracking bottle - deep gold colour but the palate was all freshness and cut layered over the top of some nutty, creamy fruit - a touch of exotic spice on the finish and sweet apple. Very similar to an aged Vouvray - excellent surprise bottle from our guest.

Quite a dark gold colour. This needed pretty much an hour in the decanter to open up then was glorious with honey, nuts and good acidity.

Fabulous texture - waxy, round and citrusy on the palate. Beautifully subtle herbaceous notes on the finish. One of the world's great wine bargains with fantastic ageing potential.

Excellent showing tonight - very youthful appearance, medium yellow with a slight greenish tinge - beautiful honeysuckle, lanolin, quince nose, and then a beautifully balanced, smooth, broad palate. Mouthfilling in an understated and elegant way; attractive and charming. Medium bodied with a long finish. Fresh enough to make you believe it was bottled last year. Will continue to evolve for years. Excellent, and one of the great bargains of the wine world.

On the up since last tasted 14 months ago. Assertive, aromatic ripe white fruits with a green capsicum spine and firm acidity to prevent any flabbiness that Marsanne can be prone to. Full bodied but dry with decent length. Good with white meats and plain fish. Certainly should hold up at this level for ten years from vintage with perhaps another point to come. 89+

Plenty to like. Just tipping into a kero honey phase but plenty of fresh fruit remains. Dirty lemon and acid keeps the flavours on the straight and narrow (but not sharp). Pepper and stone to finish. Hard to get a read on when best to drink these.

While showing the basic character if my previous two noted bottles seemed to have lost some of the intensity and appeared somewhat flabby - but have the aftermath of a slight head cold (again) which may be impairing judgement. Will watch this wine closely to check development. Won't give mark on this occasion.

Deep, clear yellow-gold colour. Medium-bodied, with delicate flavours of honey, lemon, rockmelon and paw-paw. High acid contributes a sour, under-ripe character, like green mango.

1988 vintage

Tasted without the head cold of previous noted bottle which could explain the differences! Decanted for an hour and served at or just above cellar temperature. Nose of morello cherry and hint of flowery aromatics. Flavour of nectarine and refreshing pineapple with citrus grip. Dry - just - with medium body and length with a distinct viscosity. Still youthful in character in my opinion with at least 4 years of interesting evolutionary development ahead. Excellent value.

A rare treat to have the Marsanne grape on its own and particularly from this legendary grower. On opening the flowery nose was there. Youthful with nice acidity. Tangerine citrus and white stone fruit mix. Later with an hours breathing it showed a viscous character with a little lanolin ( remember the car seats in the 50/60's) and a yeasty marmalade flavour. A lovely long finish and some years of good development ahead of it. Look forward to the rest …

A 'nothing' wine in some regards. Honey, slightly oxidative fruits with a kero edge. More proof that this wine ages well, although perhaps not quite as good as some think.

NobleRottersSydney - Stephen's Tahbilk Shiraz vertical (Lucio's, Paddington) : The 1988, by contrast, was deep yellow with an orange tint. The nose presents honey and rich marzipan aromas, with more than a hint of nutty oxidation. The palate is very broad and developed – the fruit has definitely lapsed here.
