Rich, meaty and slightly waxy. Lacking in freshness though.

Liked this, savoury, saline, a bit nutty, didn't make a detailed note but definitely a better experience than my first time drinking Pepe Trebbiano!

Birthdays in Amsterdam (l’Atelier du Champagne, Amsterdam NL) : No detailed notes. Agree with Peter’s note; quite savoury, also cheese, nutty. Interesting and complex. Great bottle

What a lively and exciting trebbiano. Bouquet changes over time, hazelnuts and slightly fermented peaches. Chalky minerals and some herbs complete the flavor profile. Drinking great at the moment but it will develop for another decade.

100% biodynamically farmed Trebbiano d'Abruzzo from a vineyard planted between in 1988. The grapes are foot-stomped in wooden tubs over 45 minutes, the basked-pressed and racked into concrete tanks. Fermented spontaneously, aged on the lees in concrete for one to two years. Bottled unfined and unfiltered. 12,5% alcohol. Bottle #13582. Slightly hazy, rather deep and somewhat concentrated yellow-green color. The nose feels a bit dull and, weirdly enough, somewhat yeasty with aromas of ripe nectarine, some yeasty sourdough starter notes, …

Truly unique wine - singular expression category. This bottle had some mild VA, which mostly blew off with 30 minutes of air. Generally improved over the few hours of drinking too. No fizziness in my bottle. More noticeable on the nose than the palate for me. Extremely complex fruit flavors ranging form pear, pear, apple cider, bitter citrus, to peach. Supplemented by pronounced herbal notes - fenugreek/licorice and slight honeyed nuttiness. Medium/full bodied, but the acidity keeps everything in balance. …

A Good Tuesday, Vol. VII: Italians: B Mascarello, E Pepe, Occhipinti, Burlotto, Barisone, Molettieri... : 10 year old Pepe Trebbiano is just starting to unwind. It's nutty, tea-like fragrance. Youthful. Oily. An Umami note comes on. Keeps unfolding. Best at 3 hours open. Salinity and Sweet fruit comes on. Wonderful acidity. Such interesting wines. This will live a long time.

So golden in color, with onion skin glints and wasn't quite expecting that! Quite herbal, appley and complex. It definitely needs some time in the glass, as it keeps changing over time. I liked it and found it capturing my attention, but would take Valentini's over this as that style is a little more direct. Always interesting opening a bottle of Pepe!

Slightly cloudy yellow; straw basket, some reduction, pear, yellow cherry, white peach, gravelly minerality, slightly saline; good concentration, complexity, good acidic cut, fantastic with the slightly waxy Manchego. Still fresh, hardly aged, just coming into its own. Milk Farm virtual Cheese tasting at Roger's. Also had a Guigal Dorian Condireu, a (Prager?) Gruner, and others.

Abbruzzo study (Chicago, IL) : Again a slightly weird bottle. Here, there seems to be a hint of fizziness on the palate. Volatile, with some of the same weird elements as the 2010, but there's an added orange peel note. The palate here is very savory, and the acidity here is a little heightened, but it's still fairly waxy and reminds me a little too much of organic chemistry lab.

Beautifully balanced, soft structure, warm finish, nose of honey, white flowers, a bit of stone fruit and grass.

Hazy amber-gold. Seabreeze, quince, almond skin, and waxy caramel on the nose. Nice cut, still youthful, not offering the complexity one would hope given the age. (Bottle number 18982)

Complex nose features honey, petrol, stone fruit (Nectarine, Apple), floral butterscotch. There's something feral here, maybe even a very slight hint of bacon. On the palate there is a creaminess, and a herbal quality that adds intrigue but is a bit much in the end. Give it some time. Overall I like this but I am not sure it is worth the price.

Some interesting secondary characteristics including a bitter nuttiness. Some mint too. Despite all that I found it to be a bit flat.

Hay, glue, yellow cherry, kind of urinal block aspect, slightly funky with reductive notes. Very good concentration for having absolutely no oak. Towards end of bottle it was really cloudy (no fining or filtering--these are decanted into new bottles upon order). Cool wine with long finish. Best of recent (10 yrs) vintages IMHO.

Nose: The nose is complex and aromatic with herbs, quince, bramble notes, lemon zest, floral tones, and some citrus too. There is excellent depth with a savory quality to it. Taste: Medium bodied with medium/high acidity and some tannins being noticeable. The feel is regal and refined with herbs, quince, lemon zest, citrus tones, and a good bit of florals on the back end. Overall: This is a lovely and nuanced Trebbiano. It is far from flabby and bland, it …

Providence: Aramatic, unique and distinct nose of paraffin wax, quince and pear juice, blanched almonds, subtle gardenia, with quite a fumey reductive volatility which lifts the aromatics. Really lovely with a light pale yellow and green hues color. The palate was medium+ in weight and had balanced medium acidity, sat on the palate with grace and a long finish. Quite a wine, first time I've had it and impressed. Read about it for a while but never had it until …

On opening the nose is a combination of brett, cashew, some tropical fruit, with sharp angles, vibrancy, and structure. Will improve with age.

Emidio Pepe 50th Anniversary Dinner, with Chiara and Emidio Pepe (L’Artusi Restaurant, NYC) : Noticeably darker gold color than the 2009 verging on amber. Light nose of sea air with just a hint of caramel. Sweet, complex, a touch of fizz. Remarkably different from the 2009, I do not think this would have the same broad appeal.

Really cloudy, yeast on the nose, lemon peel nose, hint of blue cheese. Little bubbly on the nose. Medium light acid. Cherry flavor, cherry wood flavor, hint of tobacco. Very unusual for a white. Soap on the nose. Really unique stuff. Like it a lot.

One of the more serious Italian local varietal whites I've tried. A little bit of dry sherry and oxidative notes. Decent length. Yellow fruits. Some almonds and herbs. Some hints of white from the Rhone. Decent food wine. Just a bit simple for someone used to white burgundy.

Osteria I Nonni Fall Italian Tasting 2013 (I Nonni, St. Paul, MN) : Medium dark gold color. Tasting pour. Well this was certainly a curiosity. I'm not sure I would say I liked it, but it was definitely different. The nose offers nuts, pine nuts, earth, citrus. The palate strikes me as oxidative, nail polish, bitter nuts, citrus, melon, and a sense of alcohol on the finish. Hmmm. I would be curious to know if this is typical. Based on …
