Germany and Austria Wimps Lunch (La Trompette, Chiswick) : Subtle nose, apple, light citrus, light on its feet but a lovely oily texture, pure apple driven fruit, great length and persistence. Very refined, very classical austerity but fine fruit. Tastes young though is resolved. Years left.

Despite 350+ bottles of Riesling in my cellar, this might have been my first experience with Muller's Spaetlese. I can only speak to it in its youth, and it surprised me to the downside. I thought it would better impress. Relative to my preferred Spaetlese producers (Molitor, Schafer, Richter, Prum, Donnhoff), this had less tension/electricity, less minerality, and less weight. I was surprised at how light in color and weight it came out. Delicate was the first impression. Flavors of …

Tasted blind, this was instantly recognizable as Riesling and even just visually made me think of Spatlese with its somewhat viscous texture. Pretty notes of golden apple, white flowers, and honey on the nose. Impeccably balanced on the palate, with notes of peach and other stone fruit. The sweetness and structure are in real harmony here, and there is a particularly pronounced line of minerality running through the palate and finish. My WOTN.

Drank with the family at a restaurant in Paris as a wine pairing with a prune dessert. Far too young at that early stage but there is already finesse and freshness with a good integration of sugar in the wine. Then the impressive length and kick are wonderful and to tell the story and pedigree of the wine to the family is always a delight. Non rated as it is a complete infanticide. A baby that doesn't show the heat …

Pure gold, from one of my fav makers in Riesling. This was a delight from opening, Kamquat, lemon curds, grapefruit. The balance and elegance was sublime. Gentle fuel nose not too intrusive. Perfect

40th anniversary tasting (L'Esprit du Vin - Axelborg) : My notes from this fantastic gigantic tasting are in general extremely short (because of the many wines) but with ratings. We spent a whole day tasting and tasting quality wines. This wine:The style of Riesling aromas/flavours I do find attractive. For me that is unfortunately generally the case for Kabinett and often also for Spatlese. Things change materially when we move to dry/off dry auslese. Rating based on my subjective taste

Managed to guess Müller and kabinett. My oh my, this is great. Extremely young in the glass, intense stuff with great, great precision, the fruit is concentrated, but not overdone; just keeps going. Sold! - to the crazy dane in the back. #Peytz#Pepin

During a merchant walkabout tasting, so only brief impressions. Much more expressive and impressive vs. the Kabinett, this Spätlese was a textbook wine in racynes, aromatics and precision. Ahead of Prüm today, only challenged by Weiser Künstler's Ellergrub and Willi Schäfer's Dompropst who are 4x cheaper, so clear where my money goes.

Tasted blind at Nobelhart & Schmutzig, Berlin. Almond cream and smoky mineral notes coupled with fruit of pear, gooseberry, apricot, and tangerine. A lightly creamy texture. Sufficient acidity. Aging well and probably more than decent. But lacks precision and structure for greatness.

#04-14, 8% abv. The nose is demure, with more of a minerally/slaty sort of feel than straight-up fruit, but there are some tart green apple notes as well as some herbal aromatics here. The palate is true to the vintage -- very much acid driven and lean, with some sweet fruit, but certainly weighted towards a racy, high-acid style here. I might even have guessed this as a Kabinett if served this blind. Not as complete and rounded on the …

Herlig vin! Men bør få ligge lenge.

Wines for the Acker Merrall Bicentennial Auction (The Pool - New York NY) : Small glass, brief note. Tasted double blind Oman evening full of Burgundy, so this got slightly lost. However, easily identifiable as Riesling. Rich apple with apple cobbler spice and character, but I thought it Kabinett level based on the moderate sweetness. Good richness and structure working well together. I enjoyed this more than others at my table.

Complex array of orchard fruit aromas and flavors with some apple pie notes. Faintly sweet (more savory than I'd expect for young Spätlese) with impressive richness and density. Very long, spicy finish. So good now with excellent upside.

Våt papp, kjeller og kanskje noe mynte som skinner gjennom korkaromaen. Klar flaskefeil, men likevel litt frukt og rund syre i munnen, som vitner om at dette må være noe helt annet. Krysser fingrene for de neste flaskene.

And the state the wine was in...Delicious really, so amazingly good for a Kabinett and working very well with the Lobster salad with grapefruit and lukewarm crustacean sauce!

Light pale yellow colour. In the nose, this is not super expressive, but very elegant. A lot of spice and herbs, slate notes, not much fruit, rather floral, herbal, spicy and stony. In the mouth, it's more half-dry than sweet, the sweetness is invisible in the background, great minerality, good depth, stony finish. A very tight Spätlese, great to drink.

Sweet grassy aromas, candied pineapples. Tropical fruits, ripe peach. Bright acidity and per another taster, "spritz of minerality," for sure. Very well balanced with a nice medium finish that's dryer than when first on the tip of the tongue.

This showed a gorgeous bouquet of underripe peach, fresh grass, crushed stone, walnut and an airy herbal lift. On the palate, silky textures with formidable weight gave way to a refreshing wave of brisk acidity, as notes of ripe peach, nectarine and green apple intermixed with a spritz of minerality. The finish was long with lingering sweet citrus fruit and stone. This is just a baby, yet so remarkably balanced and poised for the long haul.

3rd Deals Gastronomy Fair; 3/29/2015-3/30/2015 (Grande Bretagne Hotel, Athens) : The nose is not that clean at first, medium intensity, but very fruity with lime zest, ripe pineapple and some smoked hints too. A Few Wines at Wally's Inaugural Wine Auction (Whitney Museum of American Art - New York NY) : Apple, pear, some lemon and lemon peel aromas with Classically rich Riesling character. Lots of density, power and concentration with sneaky amount of energy emerging from middle to finish. Impressive. A highlight of the evening, that had its great qualities spotlighted by serving next to a very nice Donnhoff 2004 Spatlese in the next glass.

Mostly Rieslings : Smells amazing: lime, dried flowers, minerals, pineapple, lamp oil. The palate is rich and full of honey and apricot, but the acid keeps it balanced. The mineral, crushed rock aspects are great, and matched with flavors of sweet caramel apple and lemon peel. Long finish. Delicious stuff. I think it's fair to say every other person at the tasting loved this wine.

Near perfect example of what classic German Riesling table wines should be. Decidedly off dry with tropical fruits, mineral and Alsatian petrol. Lacks a bit of mouth feel and persistence - but at the price point you have to be a glutton to ask for more. Will last for another 10+ years. Love it!

Dinner at Tableaux (Tableaux (Tokyo)) : Light, bright yellow, with maybe the slightest greenish tinge. Good ripe nose of pear, lime, and orange, maybe a little slone/flint, along with a touch of honey. Rich mouthfeel, with clear residual sugar, but well balanced by nice zing of very lemony acidity. Lightly flavored palate of apple and nectarine fruit. Not complex, relatively light despite RS, but stood up well to the asian-influenced lobster spring rolls. Simple, but very good quality for QbA.
