Matured pinot. Color is deceiving though. Nose is younger than palate. It's got a very modern edge to it. Some sweetness that screams Russian River Valley instead of Willamette. Not my cup of tea, but Andrea loved it. I'm missing a little old world in my pinot. Not the Oregon I'm used to.

We believe this was open for two nights before trying. Wine was garnet red with brownish edges. Only slight floral notes seemed to stem from the glass. Some earthiness on the palate as well as cinnamon and dark fruits. Moderate tannins (5.5/10) and solid acidity that supplied a backbone to the medium bodied wine. Big downside which might be due to age or how many days it was open, was the finish, almost non existent. Drink now.

Took about an hour to open up. Smokey flavors, dark cherry once open, fairly long finish. Still appears to be holding up pretty well. Color is good but definitely needs some time to open up, decanting for a bit wouldn't hurt.

Perhaps at the end of the line, this former Wine Spectator top 100 Pinot Noir has seen better days. Browning, purple hue with smoky, underbrush aromas, this red still delivers rustic plum, earth and a molasses tint, heading towards a midsection of taut black cherry and spice with a clipped, abrupt ending. Relatively still held together well by firm tannins, this wine slipped a little more the next couple of days, though adding notes of cola and coffee bean. Drink …

This was a surprising wine, I had thought a 2003 Pinot would be over the hill, this one is still excellent. It has a blackberry, blueberry nose and these notes follow in the taste. This is a big wine with a velvety mouth feel and a long finish.

havent had any other pinots withstand time like this one. but i am not a pinot guy. this is not your ordinary pinot. probably could have used decanter time. got better in the glass. has some merlot tendencies. & in my view it's a drink now. tailed off from a couple of yrs back. nonetheless, stil a neat wine. less berries now. not a fruit bomb anymore.

Rocky Mountain High - Pinot Style (Vail) : Brownish red, bright brown rim and a dense core. Took a while for the nose to open and then fennel and blackberry notes appeared. Medium-to-full bodied, dense and balanced. Repeats the blackberry notes. Just a touch of jamminess but not off-putting. 50+4+13+18+6

Very good, smooth, although fruit is fading a little from previous bottles. This is at the top if not slightly on the downhill but still very good.

Similar to first bottle 3 years ago, his is a big Pinot and, to me, not representative of the earthy finesse Oregon is capable of. Drinks hot and almost Syrah-like. More Californian in style. Will give it this much: it has a long finish. Going to give my last bottle another 5 years.

No rating. Bad bottle? Fruit had really faded, only the oak was left.

This wine is still soft and jammy with loads of ripe, black berries and plums. I think it will be this way for another year or two but won’t ever develop much more. It is a delicious fruit bomb 2003 wine.

CSCA: Dark purple; low nose of blkberry, sweet leather, blueberry notes; mth was fairly rich, but light and silky, dark earth, coffee, slight bitter finish. Low acidity and med. tannins--this wine does show signs of hot vintage, not aging gracefully. Not bad, and fruity after the Hogue Cab, but not in perfect balance.

Note after 2 hours in decanter. WS got this one right on. Dense nose of plums, pine and spice. Black cherries, spice, earth and smoke on the palate. Lingering finish.

Beautiful wine, much more polished than a year ago. On the nose, cherry, raspberry and boysenberry, with no heat. On the palate, medium-bodied and juicy, with cherry, boysenberry, plum, vanilla and spice, with the tannins softened and round on a medium length finish.

Drank with thanksgiving meal. Positive remarks from everyone. Big for an Oregon, the fruit really stood out. I wanted a little more acid and complexity to play off all the flavors of the meal though.

It would be hard to imagine a wine that could compete side by side with one of Brian Babcocks best efforts but this Penner Ash won an impromtu taste taste by a nose...and a lovely nose it was. The deep, rich dark red appearance, the full and inviting nose and the explosion of dark fruit on the palate was an incredible and moving experience. Having enjoyed a great bottle of wine earlier I was hesitant to open this due to …

Tasted at Resurrection Cup III, 1/21/2006. 4th in group voting, with one first and one second place vote. Decanted for three hours. On the nose, cherry was the predominant note, along with some vanilla and floral notes and a trace of heat. On the palate, cherry, black cherry and plum come to the forefront with a very full mid-palate, finishing long with sweet tannins and just a trace of heat. I voted this second, and a very respectable fourth place …

If any OR pinot can hold up to the likely CA fruit bombs at the Cup, this would be it. This one is a possibility.

Excellent nose that makes you want to just sniff it for a while. A little tight in the glass right away but opens up very nicely. If I drink the next bottle young I would probably decant it for an hour first. Once it unwinds itself its super elegant and very pleasing.

Decanted over an hour. Overall not at all what I was expecting. This was a big wine. Dark hued color - good. Silky texture - very good, but the flavor profile to me was not distinguishable as a pinot. This could have been a merlot. The nose was overall reticent. Got lots of chocolate, vanilla and plum flavors. Also some earthiness, but no cherry or strawberry. Going to give remaining bottles a few years to develop.

Opened and decanted approximately two hours before tasting. Tasted at more of a social event, so notes are from memory and scratchy comments made the next morning. Cherry and raspberry on the nose, with a little bit of spiciness and vanilla oak. On the palate, a beautiful wine. The dense fruit follows the nose on an elegant, medium-bodied frame, adding a bit of mushroom and earth, with a spicy, medium length finish where just a tad of scratchiness exists in …

The color of this wine is clear and dark purple. The nose exudes black, ripe cherries and berries and plum. There is a sweetness on the nose reflecting the jammy fruit. The taste is intense and explodes with loads of black cherries, berries and plum. The wine has soft tannins and is fairly balanced and ready to drink but will improve over the next three years for sure.

Decanted 1½ hr. Dark in color with a good nose of cherry. Rich, extracted, black cherry and lush plum flavors with vanilla and a hint of strawberry. Full bodied PN with a smooth vanilla start, a nice round, plum-filled mid-palate with notes of anise on the generous, long finish. Definitely allow to fully decant. Should do very well with another year or two in the cellar
