Veronica Ortega, Bierzo, Quite

Still quite dense and a bit tight. The thing is there was a strong dose of brett. Initially it was just sort of stinky on the nose. Overnight it really invaded the palate and a strong sense of sweaty sock. Just strong enough to be distracting.

Dark purple red Really lives up to it's name, delicate, evasive and ....right; quite Typical Bierzo flavour. Liked it, if not to the extent that Luis Gutierrez (WA) likes it. Guess it should improve in 2-3 years

Quite the sleeper here. Initially powerfully reduced making it not very approachable. It sort of came out a bit like a young Crozes-Hermitage. Two or three hours make quite a difference. Focused, precise fruit with floral and herby aspects. Nicely detailed structure. Overnight the fruit picks up a tad more weight and seems more comfortable. Two for two with V Ortega. This is a wine that punches above its weight. Clearly needs more integration time. Impressed.

Fresh take in Mencía, very firm structure yet offering lots of fruit.

Un vin espagnol de la nouvelle vague, tres fruite noire, assez frais, legere astringence. Se boit assez bien, mais il y a un petit cote bonbon et la finale est un peu courte. Il y a un petit quelque chose qui me fait hesiter avec ce vin…

My fourth bottle and very nice again. 90.

This is as good as the -18 vintage and great QPR. Delicious fruit, some stable/leather. A shrubbery of spice. Just beautiful done Veronica! 90-91
