I opened this bottle a year ago and it showed a bit of pox. Fortunately this one (from the same case...) was profoundly young. A great dry riesling but very volcanic in character - smoky yellow fruit, deep minerality. 2013 has proven to be a strong but surprisingly 'normal' acid vintage in the bottle. De-acidification?

Currently in an optimal drinking window. Lemon, grapefruit, green apple, very mineral, complex, very well balanced, very long finish. Best Frühlingsplätzchen I have ever tasted.

Glass: Zalto Bordeaux Popped and poured, drunk over two day. High quality dry Riesling on full peak! Beautiful combination of chalky mineral notes, clean ripe fruit and lively acidity. Long and wonderful tension. 93

Very exotic fruit with lots of pineapple and mango, some passion fruit and peach, dried apricots. Very juicy and fruit-driven with noticeable residual sugar. Did improve with air, finished long with a salty minerality. Very impressive wine of high quality - but not my cup of tea to be honest (too sweet and lacks of complexity).

Paired with chicken curry. Light gold color. Very fragrant nose of alpine flowers, white stone, apricot, and citrus. Layers of pure, steely white pear and barely ripe peach on the palate cut with pebble and flint. Ample acidity and lithe structure. Longer finish of white fruit and rocky grip. Very early and barely out of the blocks, but all the elements are present for favorable evolution.

This 2013 Stromberg GG from Schäfer-Fröhlich was firing on all cylinders: Exotic fruit (pineapple, some mango), ripe pear, apricot, some rose petals, hints of flintstone. Lots of pressure, perfect acidity, a salty touch and just a sensation of residual sugar. A little more tamed after a day spent open in the fridge but to be honest: I liked it better in its opulent phase. Will keep my remaining bottles for a bit more but this was a lot of fun!

Tasted green apple, peach, apricots, stones, minerals, with a tinge of pineapple sweetness on the finish. Slightly too sweet for me today. Nonetheless fresh and enjoyable. Nice acidity. Open now.

Translucent lemon with light green tinge Nose opened lemon, developed a petrol note over the couse of the meal Delicately steely, with a long citrus finish, very long with a mineral touch.

My first Stromberg GG. Great wine. Nice balance of yellow fruit, tropical fruit, present acidity and stony tones with a long salty finish. Very mouthfilling. But I expected it to be a little bit more dry....

Initially fizzy. Effervescence died down after a day, but I couldn't get over the first taste. Pity as the fruit seemed to be lovely

The wines by Tim Fröhlich has always had a special place in my cellar and perhaps heart. His wines are always tremendously powerful, yet with a streak of beautiful elegance. This 013 Stromberg GG is no exception. With a designation similar to name of the Bond villain portrayed by Curd Jürgens in The Spy Who Loved Me, there is nothing criminal at all to be found in this wine. Still I am certain Stromberg himself would have loved the razor …

GG Tasting (Schäfer-Fröhlich, Christmann, Wagner-Stempel, Schnaitmann, Beurer) (Carpe Noctem Wein Göppingen) : Nose: Note of the spontaneous fermentation, wet stone, flinty, citrus, salt. Very barren & withdrawn nose. Palate: High, ripe, good balanced acidity, mineral drive but also some fruit aromas on the first sip. Good lenght but not as long as the Felseneck or Felsenberg. Needs time. High potential.

GG Tasting (Schäfer-Fröhlich, Christmann, Wagner-Stempel, Schnaitmann, Beurer) (Carpe Noctem Wein Göppingen) : Nose: Slightly exotic fruit aromas like pineapple, ripe peach and mango mixed with a flinty, smoky component. Palate: Appeals very "round", again a salty component on the mid palate. Good finish but not as long as the Felsenberg. I think this wine needs not so much time in the bottle to really get enjoyable.

Day 4 in the Nahe - Donnhoff/Schafer-Frohlich/Emrich-Schoenleber (Nahe - Germany) : This takes the cake for being my favorite GG of the trip. Intense nose of spearmint, marijuana, and lemons. Very exotic...unlike any other GG I've smelled before. The wine had a beautiful green tinge - more characteristic of a Mosel riesling. The palate was fresh, chiseled from stone, but had some nice tropical layers to it too. Great combination of the sleek mineral notes and tropical tones.
