A great example of an Aged Bordeaux. Soft tannins medium acidity some Earth with red fruits and some balsamic notes . This is at peak. I'd drink these up.

First impressions on decanting. Still deep red with a hint of brick, nose is a waft of tobacco scented blackcurrant with a hint of leather. Medium mouth feel with some acidity and tannins even after 26 years, initial fruit flavours of red fruits include blackberry, under-ripe strawberry, and dark plum, all with smoky overtones, long finish with spicy elements of pepper, cinnamon

Finally opening up after being last couple of bottles very shut down. Ripe blackcurrant, Callux Pauillac profile. Gently yet assertive. Very good now and for a while I think.

Vinetasters: 1996 Bordeaux (Skokie, IL) : Served double blind in a flight of 1996 Bordeaux. Smoky and ashy on the nose. The palate is quite thin, without sufficient fruit to hold up to the massive tannins, and there's more of those cigarette notes on the back end as well. Thin, weedy, and coarse. My 11th, group's 10th.

This was the last bottle of a wine my wife and I greatly enjoyed. This 2006 wine had a reasonable level of complexity with subtle tannins and good fruit. We opened our first bottle in 2012 and our last in 2017. Over the entire period it never failed to please.

This is drinking beautifully now, and likely to for some time yet. Well balanced, relatively fruit forward but with freshness and interest. Long finish and lovely integrated tannins.

Drinking very well right now. Deep ruby with a hint of rose color on the rim. Sweet nose of vanilla, white pepper, and blue fruit. Red fruit palate with good secondary flavors of tobacco, pine, and apple skin that are well integrated. Nice structure that leads to a lingering finish.

Dark fruit, earth and forest floor on the nose. Black fruits, meld perfectly with acidity and soft tannins. Lengthy finish.

I last drank this wine in 2013. Currently the wine is still drinking well. the overall balance is very harmonious with just enough tannin to inform its origins. A lovely wine. I still have three bottles of the 2006 and will try to pace its drinking over the next three years.

Nose still given off a good bouquet of the black fruits and earth. A bit thinner this time on the tongue but still drinking nicely. Showing some age but still very enjoyable.

I am not very familiar with French wines and this did not really hit the spot.

nydelig utviklet pauillac med velbevart farge og frukt, solbær, anis, jord, te, tobakk på duft. Flott konsentrasjon og balanse i munn, bra trøkk innover og faste tanniner i avslutningen. Perfekt til lammestek.

The wine is still drinking well. The color was dark red. There was minimal bouquet. The wine tasted of fruit with some twigs. The tanins were present but nicely integrated with the rest of the wine.

Subtle nose of cassis and forest floor. Cassis and dark fruits with a touch of oak are well integrated in this medium bodied Bordeaux

Not as light as the 2000s but still very lovely. The price is very good for a bordeaux of this quality.

2012 CellarTracker Bordeaux Trip; 5/21/2012-5/24/2012 (Bordeaux, France) : 50% Merlot / 30% Cabernet Sauvignon / 20% Cabernet Franc. Tons of dried fruits dominate the nose in the form of prunes and dates, along with red cherries, black plums, black pepper spice, and some mint eucalyptus notes as well. Dark dried fruits once again at the forefront yet this time on the palate, with a blast of dates, prunes, black plums and cherries, cigar box, with a hint of menthol. Medium …

Bordeaux Region - Tasted at Chateau : Tasted at Chateau Pichon-Longueville. Nice classic Bordeaux. Earthy, black fruits, cassis, a bit of oak, graphite. Medium tannins and finish. Could use another couple years cellar. (Doris liked this wine)

This is a lovely wine from the Chateau Baron Pichon. I actually tend to like this wine better than the 1st wine. It tends to be lighter. This is my first time drinking the 2006. It is nicely balanced between fruit and tannin but I suspect it will be better in a year or so. I have about six bottles of the 2000 and 2001s that I am working through so I can set this wine aside for a while. …

Lovely left bank nose with lots of red fruits. There is also a good whiff of alcohol and mint. The palate is similar but with black fruits too.

I really enjoyed this. Evolved, slightly tawny but quite dense colour. Classic savoury, medium-bodied claret with ripe, sweet fruit yet something herbal too. Shortish finish. At its peak for me.

Moderate body. Light claret color. Edgy but fades. Good nose and pairs well with different food types. It has a subtle malty scotch finish.

Proper claret. Full colour; lovely nose of cigarbox, tobacco and blackcurrant. Smooth, fresh, flavoursome but above all elegant and lithe. Just the weight and texture to enjoy on its own or with food, in this case rack of lamb. Long, refreshing and very drinkable. So much more interest and complexity than my last bottle of 96 (Potensac) which was very bland and one-dimensional by comparison. Lovely now. ***

I recently bought this wine from a good dealer. I decanted the bottle considering its age. There was considerable sediment on the side. The color was brownish. there was no bouquet. The wine was drinkable but way past its appropriate drinking age. Perhaps I decanted it wrong, but I was not impressed at all.

Excellent 2nd wine. At peak performance after 11 years and would cellar much longer I think. Nose of smoky cassis. Good plum fruit, ash and graphite on the palate - some tobacco. Good structure, nice balance. Would have benefited from even longer than 11 years in the bottle. Noticeable length.

Slightly more subdued and elegant on nose. Fuller, more tannic. Grippy. Good length, slightly tobaccoey too. Greener, less ripe, oakier. OK. Tasted alongside 1998 Grand Vin. Grand Vin in weak year v Second Wine in good year offline, RJ's, London.
