A purchase from the hedonistic Sams days; it has sat in the cellar a long time - beyond what the recommended drinking window is for what that is worth. Still, it seemed lush and smooth and quite intact for all those years; I detected the silkiness of the syrah more evident than the expected cherry notes of the grenache. Not particularly complicated, subdued meaty, gamey notes.

Very good. Well balanced fruit with plenty of acid. Color was beautiful.

Pop & pour. Very peppery, with earthy red fruit that is very new-world in style. Finish has some nice pepper as well. Not as sweet on the palate as the 2003, but very tasty and enjoyable. Drinking at peak.

Earth, game, dried fruit and toasted vanilla oak meet sweet spiced plums. Better balanced than the previous vintage with added acidity and a soft finish. Peaking, drink now.

Pepper notes consistent with previous bottle. This bottle had very little fruit compared to the previous bottle and other Owen Roe syrahs I've had. I suspect a slightly corked wine, but it's possible that this is closing down or just getting old.

Lots of white and black pepper on opening, less fruit than I expected. We finished this in short order but it seemed to be opening up towards the end of the bottle. Will decant next time. Nice wine.

Very nice bottle in the Rhone style but with very ultraripe fruit.

Better than expected...expected overextracted new world fruit-only bomb but wine while definitely new world and ripe also had great underling secondary flavors of earth, lavender, etc. Wine was young but with an hour open started giving quite a bit. Enjoyable.

Tight, but enjoyable. It didn't give up much for a while, but you could tell there's a great foundation underneath. That didn't stop us from finishing the bottle. Purple and red fruit flavors, medium acidity, and a tasty finish. Next bottle in 6 months.

Nice Rhone blend. On the nose: leather, spice, lavender, plum and a little barnyard. On the palette it's smooth, a little tight, but matches the nose. Good finish. Probably needs some time in a decanter, but still delicious.
