In the sea that is California Pinot Noir, navigating through the mediocre is tough. It’s both easy to find an “okay pinot” and stick with it simply because the search can be so daunting. As much as I love Brian Loring’s story and enjoy many of his wines, there are some that I don’t enjoy. This is one such wine. While this is more enjoyable than the 2019, it is only mediocre. This wine doesn’t look like most of Brian’s …

This vintage of Loring’s Peterson is better than the 2019 version. At least it is drinkable with sour and sweet black sherry notes followed by some Asian 5 spice and vanilla. The finish is rather short. This remains an outlier example of what Brian can actually do. But it is safe to say that I won’t be buying any more of his wines from this vineyard. Still a couple bottles of this vintage to drink or give away. 13.5% alc. …

Dark fruit, nutmeg, and a slight coffee on the nose. The palate has good acidity, with a nice balance of fruit and earth. Lighter bodied for a Loring Pinot. Well made and easy to drink at 13.5% ABV. Ready to drink but not a huge hurry.

Falltacular 2024 (FMIII in the OC) : Whoa! Brian, what’s going on here with the 13.5% lol. This wine is surprisingly light colored relative to the typical house style. Beautiful clear Garnet color. The attack is sweet, raspberry and red currant. The background is dominated by a ripe strawberry.

Classic Loring profile. Plenty of cherry flavor, some forest moss on the nose and and overall fruity finish. Simply delicious if you like this style, as I did with an In and Out Double Double!

Smooth, easy drinking Pinot. Brought it to enjoy at a New Orleans Mardi Gras Ball/Concert - the Orpheuscapade party following that krewe's parade. There was a variety of food - many appetizer style and the wine really worked in that setting. Fruity and smooth. Not too sweet.
