Domaine de Lagoy Alpilles

Decant through vinturi, 1 hour later: solid wine with good body; very restrained (subtle?) on the nose and palate; i struggled to find a little menthol. Personally just not getting much out of this bottle. Update: day 2: now more open, tart cherry, still with a hint of menthol, which adds nice complexity to the overall palate.

A bit flatter tonight. Still enjoyed with our steak salad, but seemed less inclined to reveal any secrets.

89/90. Great QPR. I'm consistently a fan of this winemaker. Restrained, peppery, first-menthol-then-pine-injected (needles and resin) red-fruited glory.

Nearly opaque ruby red, medium viscosity. Aromas of red/blue fruit, classic syrah blood/meat, a little clove and a high menthol note. Flavors echo the nose pretty closely: blueberry/plum fruit, followed by blood/meat, then leather and earth. Nice acid, well integrated and quite primary, not mussed up with wood or similar nonsense. Solid, honest stuff, nice low alcohol, crying out to be served with food.

Clear ruby. Enticing nose of leather, cloves, and red currant. Aromatic fruit on the palate, prominent acid with a fine tannic grip at the back. Excellent with an asparagus, gruyere, and ham frittata. 50 + 15 + 15 + 8.

The fruit is a little thin, the finish a little short, but this is a good table wine. Has more of a bite than you'd expect from a 13%. There's a bit of a berry taste with a bit of an earthy finish.
