Very Lovely. Big, well balanced Aussie Shiraz. Pretty much at its peak; soft tannins. Decanted shortly before drinking and drinking very nicely for 8 hours.

2000 vintage

Really enjoyed this wine. Started to write my note and then reread my note from 2014 and realized it would be the exact same description. The wine amazingly has not changed in 11 years. Slight differences. Body is medium to full rather than just full and there are slightly more pronounced secondary notes . This was a fantastic wine.

Outstanding, showed no evidence of being over the hill. Still powerful, lots of fruit, firm tannins.

2000 vintage

A perfect wine to pair with a ribeye steak on the Viking Venus ship off Norway! This wine showed no bad effects of aging, it was perfect and drank well with the steak. Still had good fruit, well-balanced, full-bodied, soft tannins.

What a stunning wine, smooth with velvety tannins. Great dark fruit flavours highly recommended. Still holding up great.

This pours a fairly deep ruby in the glass with very little bricking noted. Certainly a little sediment. The nose is complex and maturing with some mostly integrated new oak on display. The nose shows sweet cedar, twigs, season split pine, mossy undergrowth, dried blackberry, dried cherry, dried blueberry, and eucalyptus. Cork - barely stained. 14% alc. Decanted for 2 hours. Mid-garnet, with no signs of bricking. Fresh nose of red and black fruits, spice, pepper. Medium weighted palate, balanced, with fine integrated tannins leading to a good but not long finish. This bottle didn’t have much in the way of developed flavours, but it was drinking well. Really felt quite elegant, especially compared to the '98 Grange beside it.

Served with BBQ'd ,Ethiopian, rubbed-spice beef strips and BBQ'd chicken drumsticks. Purchased in 1996. Clean cork. Opened in 45 minutes. Garnet/brick rim. Some American Oak coconut to nose. Absolutely fantastic wine enjoyed on our 32nd anniversary!!)! First pour, inky, floral bouquet with notes cedar and spice...full bodied and a full mouthful, with beautifully well integrated tannins on the finish...also adding to this wines longevity and structure! The wine neither faded or lost any of its luster over the course of consuming(cheese plate, good bread, figs & chocolate!)...unbelievably full of fruit till the last sip...this wine/bottle is at its early peek, with plenty left for years...or may I suggest...Enjoy!!

Berry on the nose. Blueberry, blackberry, a touch stewed compote - but still more fresh than not. Dark in color with slight lightening at the rim. Lots of sediment - I needed a much finer screen! Well integrated mature fruit, solid yet mild, almost soft structure - leather and wood. Wonderful long finish with spicy notes. My last bottle. I think I could have held longer but really no reason. Its drinking beautifully.

Too often the ratings do not accurately reflect the wine. Not in this case. What a shame this is the last bottle. Despite being advertised as over the hill it is not at all. Being more Syrah than Shiraz it is very good indeed. Deep in colour and intensity with deep prune and tart blackberry on the front to mid pallet. The finish is the real hallmark of this wine. Reaching the zenith in terms of flavor development. There is great barossa fruit with tertiary flavors rounding out the palate. Nice wine and it is time to drink it! cheers.

Not as good as many has said. Pretty lot of spice and not enough balance overall. If you are looking for a spicy Oz shiraz, this is it, as the name does suggest.

Really should have drunk this a couple of years ago. A thinner body than I expected and a reasonable dry finish that started with a palatable burst of flavour where nothing really dominated. Remnants of some spice. Maybe I shouldn't have backed a '93 Grange with this one. Live and learn!

Fully mature. Deep fruit of dark berries, subtle secondary nuances, tannins resolved long finish. Delightful wine . Exceeded expectations.

Served blind and easily recognized as a high end Barossa shiraz. Blueberry, eucalypt, dark chocolate and sweet spices on the nose. Med-full bodied, silky textured with sweet fruit and balancing acidity. Long aftertaste. At peak with some life ahead. A wine offering great drinking pleasure at the moment.

Basically garbage at this point. Very stewy and over ripe and hot mess. Was nice back in the day but a total waste now. (Not a bad bottle, just way over the hill). Avoid.

Garnet with medium viscosity in the glass. Pepper, earth and diluted black fruit on the nose. Medium body with the nose carrying onto the palate. Pepper and diluted juice box dominate. Empty mouthfeel. Medium finish. Past its prime.

Ditto my notes from 11/2012 when last I had this wine. Still very youthful, some power but also finesse. Loads of dark fruits, plum, cassis, and still lots of wood in the nose and palatte. Leave this one alone for awhile as it's still got a long way to go

Decanted for 1 hour (but needs more). Dark ruby with purple hue. Nose full of cherries, chocolate, coffee, well integrated oak (only 30% new) and the typical spices. Ripe tannins, full bodied, nice acidity and very long lasting.

Wow, this is drinking so well. Colour just showing some age as is the nose and palate. No formal notes taken but this was wonderful.

Still quite young and vibrant, showing deep, dense, dark plummy fruit, silky in mouthfeel, quite decent acidity, smooth, rich finish. My main complaint, and the reason I don't drink much Aussie Shiraz any more, is the preponderance of oak, tar, and licorice notes, though those have faded a bit on this second night of having the wine open. For it's style, this is right up there in the first tier of Australian wines.

San Diego WineSpectator.com Offline, 4/7/2012 (Casa Red Guy, San Diego) : Tasted blind. Clear dark garnet. Pungent shoe polish nose with green bell pepper, red licorice, stewed red plums. I guessed "Cali cab" since I have tasted many aged cabs (and aged zins) with this kind of bouquet. Others liked it quite a bit more than I did. It ranked in the middle of 10 red wines.

Very dark ruby-garnet. Explosive nose with mint, blueberry, dark chocolate, tropical fruits like mango and passion fruit and some savory meaty and spicy scents. Full-bodied and perfectly round with very rich fruit, velvety tannins and high acidity. Very long aftertaste. A flawless, typical Barossa shiraz to enjoy with rich dishes, a dark chocolate or on its own. Will continue to drink nicely over the next decade at least.

Wonderful mouth feel. Notes of blueberry, vanilla and spice. Maybe a little bland for an E&E. Probably would be better in a couple years.

Cork crumbled in the bottle, but decanted twice. Brick red hue with a hint of purple, reflecting it’s almost 12 years of age. Stunningly beautiful nose of plum, cherries, raspberries and a hint of leather (almost Custodian Grenache like). Distinct palate of plum, long finish, chewy tannins with a sweet finish. Delicious. Definitely at its peak though, wouldn’t give this one any longer, in fact, would have liked to have had this a year or two earlier. Beautiful wine though.
