Suspected that it might be showing its age, so PnP to limit air exposure. Held a bit too long as the dark red fruit is beginning to fade while the acidity holds strong. Also some earth, spice and a touch of pepper on the palate. Drink up before the fruit disappears.

Vinopia sortimentsprovning (AG, stockholm) : Great discovery! I really liked this. A very fine pinot with a lot of pinosity and complexity. earthy. Sweet pinot fruit, excellent structure. Sure, its a warm blooded RRV pinot but it has elegance and structure and avoids the cola flavors completely. Similar in style to some older Williams Selyem bottlings. Highly recommended.

Big hit on Thanksgiving. Comaparatively light-bodied & elegant, but with RRV qualities (cola, vanilla) and a fairly "sweet" finsih. The balance is there, nonetheless, with fresh red fruits (strawberry, cranberry) predominating, and some spice. Most important: delicious.

Pinot Days 2009 (Navy Pier - Chicago, IL) : Each year this winery produces great juice. A one man operation the fruit is picked at its optimum ripeness and the terroir of the vineyard shows its unique green moss and Indian spice components. A bit steep in terms of price, yet I feel good supporting a small venture like this one.

One of the great things about wine is it's variety, even in the small differences between individual bottles of the same wine. In this case, this Martinelli Ceremonial Vineyard bottle is the last of the 7 bottles that we have of this wine and it is showing better then all the others. Beautifully balanced and complete, this is the best 07 George Pinot Noir I've had so far.

Finally I have a better idea about what these guys have to offer. Nose is full of blackberry, anise, clove and some dark cherries underneath. We've gone through a few of these since we opened the first one back in November and they have all been very consistent. This time around was the first time I've been able to let half the bottle sit open overnight and the wine fleshed out nicely with that additional time.

Didn't feel like waiting on this one. Initially red/black cherry with notes of well integrated (just subtle enough) oak and vanilla. Delicate raspberry liqueur. Slight hints of game. Cinnamon and spice. Alcohol (13.5%) is noticeable but not unpleasant. After 1.5 hours sweet raspberry and rhubarb emerging. Improving nicely, touch of white pepper. Flirts with notes of tea that may emerge with time. Eventually seems to coalesce and fruit sweetens and deepens.

New Year's Weekend @ Rob & Lisa's; 1/1/2009-1/4/2009 (Scott's Valley, CA) : Impression only as I only had one small glass of this. Nose of spice, strawberry and cranberry. Delicate bright red fruits and acidity up front that gently pass over the entire palate into a pretty brief finish. Having just received my case of 07s from George, I popped one of these since there were 7 of them in the shipment. For me, this wine is the epitome of balance between big burly pinot noir and a lighter Burgundian style and manages to show this off at this early stage of its life very well. Nice cherry cola scents mixed with pine and spice. There is good acidity and plenty of ripe fruits but not over the top …
