Domaine Jean Gros Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru Clos des Réas

Jean/Michel Gros Vosne-Romanee 1er Clos des Reas Dinner (RPM Steak - Chicago IL) : Opened a couple of hours before it was served, which was probably a mistake. Mature red fruit with baking spice to start that I thought perhaps 92 or 93 points, but faded and only marginally interesting 15 minutes later, at 85 points, and just downhill from there.

The middle of the cork crumbled so a bad start. Decanted the wine which left it slightly cloudy, with a very pale colour. But then... The nose was just to die for, so big and alive, with spice and berries. And in the mouth, an explosion of taste. Balance sweetness and so alive. The finish just went on and on. Wow so lucky to have drank this, it makes you focus on trying to find similar old wines that amaze.

Mature burgundy offline (Rôtisserie Jules, South Kensington) : This too was faded, but it had a nice rich texture, with some ripe sweet fruit on the mid-palate
