East Bay Riesling Squad- Riesling Gangnam style (Gangnam Tofu- El Cerrito, CA) : There is a noticeable flinty quality that strikes right away but doesn't entirely dissipate. For me, it's a touch distracting while the tones of peaches, limes, white fruits, pears, green apples, saline, crushed rocks, and acacia flowers. The Light bodied feel is refined and fresh while the racy, high acidity has a bit of sharpness. This feels a bit angular right now. Everything here is good, but …

I saw the ‘22s hit the NYC market this week so I thought I’d check in on last year’s purchase. Decanted for three hours. The reduction had just blown off to reveal ginger candy, lime, and minerals. The mouthfeel is the star feature for me; it evolves from cheek-puckering acidity, briefly relieved by a hint of sugar, before the wine leaves a thin layer of glycerin on it way out. This is in the zone with just one year of …

Honeysuckle, white peach, chamomile, basil, creamy, coconut candy, grapefruit, lemon curd, very complex and intense on both nose and palate. A little bit of residue sugar but not obvious and everything is singing in harmony. So delicious!

Riesling Study Night #2 (1/21/23) : Leaner stone fruit, tinge of sweetness with RS, slight sour lemon and herbaceous lift, pear drop/peach candy. I’d say cusp of off-dry. Balanced, complex, long finish, all around very nice! Opens better in the glass, needs more time to settle down for better integration in the bottle. I will hold off for a few years. 93 today, 93-94++ potential.

Wow. It’s hard to believe this is such a young wine but it’s firing on all cylinders. Almost painful yet pleasing acidity, Citrus fruit, medium plus nose and a long finish. Drinking so well now but I’m sure can benefit from age.

Significantly better than the bottle tasted a few months ago. Lots of minerals and yellow plum. Has a slightly mouth puckering finish. There is a lot of richness and viscosity and very good (if not great) flavor depth. A cool and unique butterscotch/mirabel thing going on. Delicious. (91)

I’m not getting the magic that I normally see from this producer. Yellow / gold with a hint of green. Honey, minerals and just a touch of white peach on the nose. Round and integrated. Rich, with noticeable botrytis on the palate. There is acid there but not nearly enough to cut through the fruit. Lacks depth and lacks clarity. Ok but not more. Nowhere near as good as the previous bottle. Hope this is not a trend. (87)

This is quite a wine. Exotic, mineral driven, botrytis present yet dry and vibrant. It tickles the palate and tickles the truth of terroir. Rich in texture with nectarine being the most dominant fruit. Depth and power but not too much for this taster. Serious Riesling. Seriously good. But singular. Perfect for a contemplative mood - you need to give to get full enjoyment. (92)

I wasn't sure what to expect when I opened this bottle in regards to residual sugar. I can tell you that the wine is noticeably on the sweet side, but is balanced by a nice acidity. The wine had an unusual bitterness to its finish, reminiscent of an apricot pit, which added to the wines complexity.

I'm not going to "flaw" this wine, it's close, but as it is, it is dark and advanced, and not enjoyable. I am having the worst luck with the last few bottles of 2011 German Riesling I have opened.

Rieslingfeier - Seminar with David Schildknecht, Andreas Adam, Thomas Haag, Florian Lauer and Dorothee Zilliken (Bar Boulud, NYC) : Florian says this is from a parcel in the Kupp with southwestern exposure on the foot of the hill, with finer, weathered slate soil and trellised vines. The wine's lovely; a scent of spring flowers, lower toned fennel-like notes and that sponti yeast funk, and great depth and balance on the palate with ripe melon and stone fruits matched by more …

Rieslingfeier - Seminar with David Schildknecht, Andreas Adam, Thomas Haag, Florian Lauer and Dorothee Zilliken (Bar Boulud, New York, NY.) : 12.3% alcohol, 14-15 g/l RS, 6.7 g/l acid, a touch of botrytis. From the foot of the hill, with finer soil and SW exposure. Light-medium yellow. Peach, honey, beeswax, bitter peach pit, minerals on the nose. Enters intense: sweet and bitter with peach, peach pit, minerals. Quite complex. Darker in flavor spectrum than the previous wines with some golden …
