Better showing this time. Extended airing is necessary due to the robustness of this wine. Syrah dominant blend, reminds me of syrah forward Tuscans. Drank alongside a 2010 Ardanza, and to me the weight and density were similar, though clearly the Ardanza is a more complex and sophisticated wine.

Comes across as more Rhone than Spanish, meaning less ripe. Loads of pepper, black fruits, licorice. Well integrated and balanced. Would buy again. Needs an hour of air and serve slightly chilled.

Bit of funk to the nose: dark, wild fruit, barnyard, creosote. Palate is tight: sour cherry, leather, blood orange and raspberry. With air, funk largely burned off and the fruit pulled back some, but so did the leather, and what was left was a fine but not extraordinary wine with a savory, herb character and a slightly salty finish. Cork back in, fridge overnight. Better the second day, either from the air or the lower serving temperature.

In der Nase schwarze Früchte. Im Mund auch diese Noten von Brombeeren und Schwarzkirschen, verbunden mit deutlichen, aber gut eingebundenen Holztönen. Eine frische Säure trägt den durchaus spürbaren Alkohol (15.5%), wodurch der Wein in keiner Weise plump daherkommt. Rund, füllig und saftig ist diese Cuvee aus Garnacha, Syrah und Mazuelo. Schon ein ziemlich kräftiger Brocken, aber nie langweilig oder eindimensional alkoholisch. Für das Geld (13 Euro) ein sehr schöner Wein.

Great QPR. Borsao turns out great Grenache, and this — plus a healthy serving of Syrah — is no different. A bit of heat with the alcohol % (stated 15.5%!!!) but overall it’s well balanced.

First vintage of this new wine from Borsao. Garnacha / Syrah dominated with a touch of Mazuelo. The packaging is more high brow than much of their portfolio with a heavy Burgundy shaped bottle and dark, contemporary labelling. Really deep ruby in the glass. The nose is classic Borsao with heady dark fruits, woodsmoke, vanilla and espresso along with some attractive peppery spice. The palate is rich and sumptuously textured but remains balanced and fresh even with a whopping 15.5% …

Spanish Syrah with a dark purple hue and a weighty presence in the glass and on the palate. Aromas of kalamata olive and meaty plum with savory notes of blackberry compote, black currants, smoke, iron and wild herbs. Softer tannins on the finish. Nice complexity here, will look to purchase again.

Too jammy. Strong alcohol hides the fruitiness of its own. This is not quite sweet wine but the little sweetness in it bothers me. Texture is soft and the overall balance is good, but it’s just not my thing. Maybe there’s people out there who enjoys this type of wine very much.

Dark ruby, vibrant. Strong vanilla aroma, with something like cherry ice cream underneath. On the palate, lusciously smooth: that'll be the ridiculously high alcohol. Some fine tannins, and some - just enough - acidity for freshness. A very long finish. More than anything this reminds me of a really big, bold Barossan Shiraz. (The blend is actually 70% Grenache, 25% Syrah, 5% Mazuelo.) The presentation is impressive, and the wine is impressive too. People who like this kind of thing …
