Qupe Syrah Nielson Vineyard

Another sound bottle of this. Ripe and fairly round -- seemed more simple than the previous bottles, but still very enjoyable.

The more bottles of this I drink, the more I appreciate what a great wine this is. May be the best $12 I've ever spent on a bottle.

Another bottle of this drinking very well right now. Very clean and pure (some of these Qupe auction bottles have been a little funky). Medium ripe style with prominent sanguine and iron notes rather than berry. Good on the first but even better on the second night.

Another nice bottle from the auction purchase. Just a very well-made, lovely Syrah made in a style that shows off the fruit and terroir.

14.8% abv. Recent auction purchase. Ready to go from the pop 'n pour. This is really a nice, pure, balanced red with lots of lovely Syrah character. A touch of heat detracts a little, but this was very enjoyable. Went very well with chicken ravioli with red pesto sauce. Much better than the 2004 Bien Nacido I drank the other night.

Had with coffee rubbed lamb chops. The wine still looks quite youthful, purple rim, dark purple core. Loads of blackberry/raspberry and crushed rock in the nose with some sappy oaky scents. As the wine opens, I get some green peppercorn/spicy herbs and some more earthy aromas. Int he mouth, the wine is full bodied, + fruit acid, med tannins. wow! Very new world Syrah, powerful, dark fruit, peppery. A little hot from the 15% alcohol. Impressive but quite different from my previous experience with Qupe.

Kendall’s: Rich, chocolate, blueberry pie, hint minerality, nice strucure--can age; Exdcellent, but clearly Cali.

Winey: Very nice pure blue-black frt, well bal, good dusty t’s, fine structure, Rhone like;leather, whole black pepper, very nice, not a big bomb at all, restrained and complex.
