Orange at the edges. Nose is pretty nice with sous bois, tea leaves and red fruit. No structure remaining on the palate, it’s old… still some red fruit and lots of acidity, but not much else.

Pronounced nose with notes of sandal wood, toast, charr wood, forest floor, spices. Medium tannin and acidity. Still holding up but will not improve anymore. Drink up.

Chateau Figeac masterclass: Five decades of a St-Emilion stalwart, from 1966 tp 2016 (67 Pall Mall London) : Big nose of mature saddle leather. In full tertiary development. This is fully mature and starting its downward trajectory but retains good acidity and freshness. This gave the 1982 a run for its money and the two wines were very similar in profile.

A second time with the 83 and this time actually slightly better. Very harmoneus, everything in balance and with great fruit. The cabernet franc makes this wine stick out from the crowd. Pnp. Perfectly stored since release. My fourth vintage of Figeac, and my 6 th bottle.

Caraffed for about 3 hours what seems to have worked fine. Odours of plum compote, thyme and quite light mineral notes. Tastes of light balanced acid and still with some kind tannins not all wore out over the years. So still quite rich body with decent saddle leather and a mildly salted last layer before a medium long finish.

Gott men ingen jättestor upplevelse.

My fourth vintage of chateau Figeac: 1983, 1998, 2000, and 2007. Typical Figeac I would say, with the cabernet franc making its mark. Initinally a bit thin, but this wine grew substaintially with a 3 hour double decant and would problably have improved even more with an additional 1-2 hours. This was very good, but the 2000 was even better. Perfect fill and perfectly stored since release.

Aerated in carafe for two hours prior to serving; it unfolded nicely in the subsequent two hours before it was gone. Love where this is at right now, as I tend to find some magic inside the subtle pyrazine and tea accents, freshly turned soil, etc. Elegant medium body, fine/vg length, more elegance, with just the right amount of red/dark red boldness of fruit. A joy. to my palate, I'd drink this now vs holding any longer, even if it's …

The nose shows a bit of cassis and dark fruit, and on the palate this has initially what I'd call a pretty classic merlot profile, with the acidity showing a bit prominently. Someone at the table thought it might be heat damaged (which I didn't). But then, after about a half hour, the Figeac comes out - waves of green notes on the nose and the palate, but not what I'd call vegetal or artichokes (as an 86 had recently), …

The 83 Figeac (ex-chateau) is a surprisingly strong offering with more delineation to the red and black cherry, tobacco, and Asian spice nose than most Figeac vintages of the era. Some welcome sap on the palate though ultimately this isn’t more than medium bodied. Pleasing character and length.

Decanted off sediment for 3h. Lovely aromas of dried currants, leather, earth and hints of cedar. Palate was excellent with more dried currantsa nd cassis, leather, cedar, dried tobacco, and earth. Elegant and beautifully complex. Tannins are mostly resolved with hints of tannins on the back end. Lovely.

The wine was dark garnet in colour and offered red fruit, red cherry, raspberry, blueberry, vegetal notes, bell pepper, peas, leather, cedar, tobacco, spices, cinnamon and mild balsamic notes on the nose and palate, with high, lively acidity, fine, well-integrated tannin and superb length. The wine was reasonably smooth and reasonably balanced, and very energetic, with good concentration and great complexity. An imaginary blend of St. Estèphe and Pomerol. Great Bordeaux! Best with food.

Medium bodied, the wine shows a soft, silky, polished character with the patina of a much older wine with secondary notes of wet earth, tobacco, leaf, stone, and dried red pit fruits. But the color, texture and nuances gave the appearance of seeming to be much older than its age. This is more than fully developed, so if you have a bottle, you should open it sooner than later.

Clear light red with brown edges. Very developed nose of thyme, cedar box, earthy red fruit, mushrooms and red flowers. Dry cassis and herbal flavours, not at all ripe. A very high acid finish. Very traditional Bordeaux with 30 plus years of bottle age.

Académie des Cinquante Bordeaux visit; 9/20/2017-9/23/2017 : Impériale. Mature but lively appearance; excellent classic nose, mature and rich but fresh, medicinal, spicy, hint of tea, lovely tertiary development, harmonious and deep; the palate is harmonious and fresh, but it is slightly attenuated and it is becoming fragile, with a slight metallic edge to the acidity; light finish, slightly honeyed, good length. Develops very quickly in the glass, drink up.

Académie des Cinquante 61st Annual Dinner (Restaurant Het Roode Koper *, Leuvenum, NL) : Very mature nose, black tea, earthy and warm, hint of nutty evolution, disjointed palate, skinny, nervous acidity, dry finish, is falling apart.

Whatever merits this wine may have once had, it no longer had them in October 2016. Strong iron flavor too.

Bouchon et bouteille parfaits. Niveau in neck. Non carafé. Robe grenat, nuances brique, assez brillante.

Great showing. Very mellow and relaxed but not tired. The CF gave it a great barnyard character.
