Opened at Caprice in HK. Slow-oxed gently before serving. This was ever so slightly tired on the nose, otherwise it would have scored even higher. The palate on this was incredible - bursting with fruit, so concentrated even at nearly 50 years old, and tied together with vibrant acidity that still gave it freshness and precision. An incredible treat from Z, and amazing to try. Can't wait to return the favour!

Father's Day, US Open Golf & Great Wine (3 Day Wine Review World Headquarters, Minneapolis, MN) : Natural cork. Dark fruits, menthol, white pepper, spice, raspberries, earth and cherry. Picks up some smoked meats on the medium plus finish. Probably would recommend holding these for 5 plus years as while I liked the wine it certainly was expensive for the return.

PnP. Deep and fragrant. Violets, smoked meat and dark berries on the nose. Silky texture with fine tannins, black cherry, olive tapenade and a hint of spice. Elegant and long. Still youthful but already showing plenty of detail.

Guigal's La Mouline 2013 is a promising wine that still needs further cellaring. Notes of cocoa, black fruit, and spices, along with the still unresolved oak are predominant. With air is gains complexity and it is more weightless. The palate is round and profound, and will be fantastic in 5-10 years.

One of those wines I never thought I would see again. And it was just as good as I remembered it. Aromatically, the wine jumped with its blend of strawberries, kirsch, peppery herbs, black raspberries, olives, and bright, kirsch. The palate was long, elegant, refined, sweet, and spicy with intensity, length, and a subtle, sensuality that belongs to Rayas. Bottled magic. Drink from 2024-2030.

Dark and intense. Black fruit. Needs at least an hour decant or it is too tight to appreciate. Gets more floral the longer it is decanted.

Tasting: A great vintage for Guigal and very tasty after a 2-3 hour decant. Very typical syrah with blood, iron, meat and so on. Seems ready for drinking, actually.

Opened a 750 and immediately put half in a 375 to go in the fridge overnight. Decanted the rest and let it sit for 2 hours. Quite primary and structured as we started drinking it. Black cherry, plum, faint rose petal on the nose, but again, a bit tight on the palate compared to some of the older ones we've been having. A good friend brought this over as warm up before the Daniel Tosh show in Houston. He also brought a 2004 Bollinger RD. What a nice guy! Splash decanted and allowed about one hour to open. This La Mouline had all the classic N. Rhone flavors but a bit more lifted and Burgundian in style. Match avec le carré de cotes de veau aux champignons était parfait. Première expérience avec les LaLaLa. Carafé 4hrs. 89% syrah, 11% viognier. Cote blonde. Mures, violette, moyennement puissant. Licorice. Un peu de menthe séchée. En bouche, c’est souple et long. Tannins fins. Legere acidité qui allège le tout.

PNP. Deep dark ruby magenta color. Salted caramel, black cherry, walnut, black pepper, fig, coffee, and subtle blueberry on the deep, rich nose. Smooth, tongue drying palate, with fine acidity. Full, low intensity tannins on the longish finish. Perhaps the best GSM I’ve ever had. Could have been even better if served a bit cooler and with a one hour decant.

My 2nd of 4 bottles. Opened for 3 hours. Color is deep garnet and very opaque. On the nose: Pepper, currants, smoke and blood. On the palate: Currants,pepper, plum, violets, blood and tar. Decent finishMouthfeel is silky. This is just great stuff.

4/5 hour decant. Inky color. Nose is complex and multi dimensional- tobacco, herbs, lead, salinity, mint and fresh garden berry, perhaps some juniper. Palate is extremely taught, with more herbal and garrique, dusty soil, peels, berry, and coco bean. Dense and complex, 10 plus years to improve.

Very young. Enormous potential. Red currants, violets, beef blood with a bit of smoke and pepper. Really big and lucious.

Superlative Northern Rhône rouge from the giant house of Ampuis. This La Moulin Côte Rôtie was raised for 42 months in new oak barriques and comprises of 89% Syrah and the rest Viognier. Tight, structured, and unyielding. Lots of savory black fruit, black pepper, and new leather notes with a firm new oak frame. Give this baby at least 10 more years (2029-2043) or thoroughly decant it for 2-3 hours before consumption. 91++

Slightly cloudy. Good red fruits. Meat, campfire, grill, jerky, animal, pepper, spices. Really exceptional and very much still together.

Plenty of good stuff here but marred by a more aggressive than typical series of bret-like notes. Not as fresh or vibrant as the bottle this summer.

The only wine that was decanted in advance, and good thing as this is obviously young. Magnificent spice on the nose, rambunctious fruit, and glycerin mouthfeel. Enjoyable now, but clearly will be much better in a decade.

From a case acquired decades ago. A beautiful bottle, that was perfectly paired with the 1988 Mouline. A terrific flight.

It's not often I get to taste a true unicorn wine, but this was worth the wait! With an explosive nose showing intense, floral, kirsch, cherry orchard, pepper, cocoa, thyme and bacon fat, I was already hooked. Concentrated and almost dense, the wine offered an exotic texture blending lusciousness with opulence and freshness, ending with a finish that kept on going, in all its, peppery, pure, kirsch and spicy glory. Clearly, a contender for wine of the year!

World's Greatest - Night II (Daniel) : Expressive nose that has the same drying red roses and rare meat as the '78, but with a far more showy and Burgundian exposé of terroir. Also lush and opulent. There is nuance and elegance here. Still has a real wallop of black fruit power in the mouth.

Tasted alongside the fabulous '78, this was much leaner than that great wine but also very silky and refined. Lovely flavors of plums, violets and cassis with a certain port-like ripeness. Balanced and velvety, this kept improving with a wonderful, finely complex finish showing fabulous notes of smoke, spices and soy. Very fine but lacks the fireworks of the '78. But I may have scored higher on it's own!

Both were great, but I was still enamored by the sixties, and didn't give these the attention they no doubt deserved.

This wine is immortal. How does a 33 year old wine still have the color, tannins, fruit that this La Mouline has? Wow. I would agree with other reviewers that this wine may have lost a little of its stuff, but not much. (Mine was in a 60-degree cellar for most of its life upon release.) great balance on this wine. definitely has lost some fruit, but still amazingly balanced with sweet red fruits, floral tones and velvety characteristics. Showed very well for a 76 and actually improved with some time in glass and decanter.

Initially a sort of nondescript old wine nose that took a few minutes to dissipate. Volatile, but nicely so, with cinnamon and asian spice, floral, blackberry fruit, and sweat notes. Really elegant wine, with some soy to the palate and a well integrated, balanced structure. Lots going on here - distinctly Cote Rotie, but not unlike an old Rioja in character. Delicious.

Shiveringly cool stuff. Started off with an off-putting old nose. A little Rotie character peeked out. After 10 minutes or so, this began to sashay in all its glory. At times, this recalled old Rioja and then danced full into Rotie showiness with intricate structure, cured spicy meats and old books. This was a treat to experience.

Dinner at St Jacques with Todd & Lisa, Wes & Terry Ann and Bill K. Ruby in color with some bricking at the edge of the glass. A lot of nice elements here but also a lack of fruit. Quite interesting at the beginning but in 20-30 minutes it really started to lose it quickly. An enjoyable wine, probably a few years past it's prime. Red. Scents of mustard and pudding coming out of the glass. The texture of this wine was quite smooth, yet the taste was a bit hard and not too charming. There's good density, width, and structure, and a solid, long aftertaste. But the flavour spectrum was more in the iron curtain department than than that of red velvet. Four square and rustic, this was a disappointment.
