Quite a success, opulent for a cab franc. The structure and balance is really nice and there is thick fruit behind it. I like it a lot more than I had anticipated.

Acidity is still high, but tannins are soft-ish. Nose was more powerful upon opening than it was post a two-hour decant. Paired well with a roast gammon. A well made wine, but I’m not getting 100 point vibes.

5th of 6. Now in its optimum drinking window. Medium to full bodied. Outstanding nose and taste. Notes of violet, pepper and orange peel. Complex powerful and refined, fine silky tannins now resolved. Wow! ******!

Not a classic Cabernet Franc. Does not have the level of perfume and delicacy one would expect from a French one. But its a fabulous wine drinking well now, but will last at least another 5 years. Medium+ body. The additional of Malbec makes for a rich and luscious palate. Tobacco, Leather, Red fruits. Herbs.

95. Fruit still fresh and wine still has good structure. Bit light and acidic due to the El Niño conditions of this vintage giving it a burgundy vibe. Quite a wtf wine if you want to surprise friends at a blind tasting. Best kept for another 10 or so years though. Decant at least 4 hours if drinking now

Tasting Ground official tasting, El Enemigo Cabernet Franc Gran Enemigo Gualtallary 10-vintage vertical (Oinoscent) : Compact, dense, ripe fruit, black fruit, ribena, black cherry, a few herbal notes. Palate is juicy, nice acidity, silky tannins, herbal/stalky notes adding freshness, there is a "cold' profile here, youthful, med body, med finish. A very elegant wine from a (claimed by them) "Burgundy" vintage. My second favourite vintage after 2013

The finish is the headline of this wine at its current stage of evolution. It is salty, mineral (crushed rocks), tart berries, and goes on for ages. The nose, and also the attack and mid palette is delicious and concentrated, but very young with ripe black fruit and oak, but the finish is spectacular. 90 for now, but the upside when everything comes together is off the scale.

Dark, ripe and inky. Very intense on first pour and needs some air to come together. After decanting for 2-3 hours, the core of ripe dark fruit settles down and makes way for cedar, spices and cocoa. Not what I would expect from Cabernet Franc, but a well made wine. Deep purple colour. Pronounced aromas of dark plums, ripe blackberries, dark cherry, cedar, vanilla, cinnamon, cloves, cocoa, leather, licorice. Pronounced palate. Medium (+) body, high acidity, medium (+) tannins, long …

Powerful and concentrated but somewhat diffuse and lacking focus. It’s 85% Cabernet Franc.

Deep ruby with a heavy perfume of violets, candied strawberry and black plums. Tannins are medium (+) but very smooth and acidity is high which lifts this above being a heavy wine and creates excellent balance. Slight trace of green bell peppers and fresh leather and vanilla. Not too many tertiary notes at this stage so would love to revisit in 5 years.

This Cab Franc/Malbec blend has delicious dark fruit that reminds me more like a wine from the left bank of Bordeaux. Complex with notes of chocolate, violet and forest floor with a balanced spice on the finish. Super smooth on the palate and a very long finish of oak and delicious dark fruit. This is a great wine that has many years left to develop in the bottle.

Gran Enemigo 2016 tasting, via tubes samples (Oinoscent) : Very fragrant, floral notes, green bell pepper, well balanced, high intensity, a thicker oak frame than the rest of the wines In the palate, the wines show high intensity again, stronger, tighter tannins, almost brutal ones, juicy blue fruit, medium to full body, herbal/stalky freshness, long finish With time and air in the glass, you get the character that we all love !

Decanted for about 45 minutes, this was smooth as silk with a combination of red and black fruit, woody herbs, violet, and slate on the nose. On the palate, it trended toward darker fig and plum notes but with good freshness and acidity that combined a sense of casis of dried orange peel. Perfectly balanced and a beautiful expression of Gualtallary. Excited to try again in five years.

In the bouquet dark berries and ripe red berries and cherries. On the palate dark berries, herbs and spices, beautiful acidity and mild tannin, a touch of sweetness. Full bodied and aromatic , juicy wine with a good length. In its young maturity stage now. 92 – 93

Nose of dark fruits, a bit of licorice, cloves, violets and just a little bit of heat. Young and virile. The medium bodied palate is fresh and vibrant, and again flavours of intense dark fruits, with plums, blueberries, blackberry and cassis. Licorice, slate and spices add some complexity, but still very primary (and not in a bad way), this is all about the quality of the fruit at this stage. Very fine tannins add some grip into the medium/long length …

The nose is more savoury and meaty compared to the other sister single vineyards. The ripe blueberries, plums, floral and toasted spices are behind the big and mineral aromatics now. Some decanting is recommended to open up the wine. The palate is so full, rich and deep with flavours, supported by waves of fresh acidity and very fine tannins that stretch the structure of the wine seamlessly from entry to finish which lingers for a long time. Yet, everything is …

The 2016 vintage in Mendoza is considered 5 stars. El Grande Enemigo Cabernet Franc is already a great wine. black ruby. Intense. Velvety. Very complex and layered, El Gran Enemigo combines notes of ripe black fruit, spice, sandalwood, chocolate and balsamic. A fantastic, smooth, velvety wine. Extraordinary.
