A darkish colour for a Barolo. Quite full, elegant and perfumed, with a little tannin still. I decanted this for 6 hours, which helped to bring it to life. Very good, but will keep.

Mahogany colour; this has flavours of cherries and orange peel, and typical rose/tea hints. It tastes mature and is full, rich and elegant even, with plenty of grip. Should keep well.

Drinking very nicely. There�s plush soft rose scented cherry fruit up front and a nice long finish with a welcome gentle rasp of fine tannin. Touch more acidity would be good but I guess that�s the nature of this warm vintage. 4+

Ready to go! Open and soft, touch more acidity would be good but this is delicious. Held its own against 2004 Cavallotto Riserva and a Gaja 2001 Sori Tildin!

Sarasto�s review below accurate. Really decent wine. Rose on n. Light red in glass. Solid red, blue and dark red fruit on p. Nice balance and length. Drying tannin on finish. I enjoyed it and would buy again.

First bottle was corked so I opened right way my last one. Opted to let it air in the stems, Riedel Vinum Pinot Noir, and drank it during the whole evening This is a Barolo that is truly elegant, ethereal and harmonious. A nice light nebiolesque color matching its light soul. Decanted for four hours in the morning, poured over dinner. Medium ruby. Roses, roasted red fruit, iron, earth, almond, marzipan, and spices, with good acidity, fine, grainy tannin, and good length. Notable VA. On day two, the tannin is still grainy, but a little softer overall. Fairly ripe, with average complexity. I would drink now and over the next six to eight years, to avoid that the wine dries out.

A very DP Birthday party (DP's, Goose Hollow, Portland OR) : This saw about 2-3 hours of air before I brought it over and even then, it needed the better part of 3+ more hours to fully come into form. There is some noticeable VA on first pour that slightly dissipates with swirling at first. Beautiful nose. Not powerful but super elegant with strawberries and cherries. Delicate wine again with strawberries, cherries, iron, leather, dried roses. It does not show the warm vintage that much compared to the Bussia 2011 I had a while back. Good to drink now. I think it will not make old bones.

With great takeout from Belloti Ristorante (a great SIP tip from Greg St. Clair!) for a special meal. I love these wines and wish I could buy many many more. Nose was shut down up opening, so decanted for two hours. Seemed to open up for the most part over the evening. All the elements seem pretty correct and down the middle. Medium freshness (though I'd like a little more), good medium to plus tannins that helped this pair well with steak. There's still a slight cinnamon note that I find a little distracting, though there's solid material here that can develop and blossom further.

Darker garnet toward ruby, consistent with the vintage's heat, I suppose. The nose and palate though present more balance and freshness than the color might suggest. In fact, there's quite a bit of structure here, with the bottle showing even better on day 2. Double decanted about three hours before dining this wine was again decanted before serving. About three hours into the meal the intensity of the tannins dissipated leaving a very fine wine but this wine should not be drunk before 2019 or 2020 as it is a tempest of taste but wound very tightly indeed.

A bit of VA over the first couple hours open made this tough to evaluate, and while it did start to come together during hour three and beyond, the cinnamon and vanilla flavors did seem to stick out as much or more than the fruit, which was wound up fairly tight. Did not expect the wine to be so closed, but it seems like it will need quite a bit of time to unwind and meld together.

2011 Barolo Tasting (Chez John Morris) : The nose is overwhelmed by cinnamon for me, I could hardly notice anything else. In the mouth it shows lush, soft, silky sweet blackberry fruit, not as dense or powerful or tannic as the first wine. The fruit is tasty but it's a little simple and boring and could use more acid. My #5.
