Domaine de Coyeux, Muscat de Beaumes de Venise

Honey, marmalade, candied fruit, slips down nicely with a good range of desserts and blue cheeses.

Super fun wine to try this late in its life. Deep gold color. The sweetness has turned toward caramelized honey, aromas of lychee and honeysuckle, reminiscent of Gewurztraminer. Just enough acidity to help keep it interesting, though would benefit from more. Not super complex, but still very tasty.

This VDN was bought recently in a supermarket of the Grand Duché du Luxembourg and although some viticulteurs in the appellation maintain that these wines can age very well and even gain some extra complexity this example is for me rather proof for the opposite. The wine is still quite drinkable with a pale-yellow color, a modest nose and a somewhat plump sweet honey flavor with little remains of the juicy muscat fruit. Very light golden color. Nose of lychees (and very strong at that) rose petals, honey, apricot and hey. Nice mouth feel, completely coats the palate. I wish it had a bit more acidity to offset the sweetness.
