Bernard Baudry, Chinon, Franc Pied

My last bottle. Similar to previous notes. So good.

Intoxicating nose. Classic cabernet franc with the right maturity. Tobacco, spices, dark fruit. Same palate, medium body. So fresh and balanced. Drinking extremely well right now.

Really a lovely wine, expressive, detailed, and delicious. Great energy and focus,and the fruit is luminous.

Beautifully polished nose of framboise, skunk, sour pickle. Explosive and beautiful, though slightly flat in the mouth.

In a terrific place. Lush blackberry fruit that is shot through with gravelly and tobacco minerality, some green pepper notes, and the aromatics and flavored are almost startlingly pure. Great acidity and balance. Lovely, lovely wine.

Not decanted, consumed over 2+ hours. Ahhh, much better than the bottle from 2012, and a very nice way to celebrate being back home after our holiday travels. For me, the impressive thing about this bottle was its impeccable balance. Dark cherry/berry fruit not forcing its way into the foreground but co-existing harmoniously with notes of forest or underbrush and a hint of graphite alongside a present but accessible acid-tannin structure. This is beautiful now, weightless and edgeless, franc de pied Chinon doing what it does best. It's showing more personality than it did a few years ago, the fruit having mellowed enough to show some smoky tobacco and herbs, with still a touch of cedary wood. You would never know this is a weak vintage in the region. This is complete and perfectly composed.

Not decanted, followed over 4 days...not that there was much evolution, although the eventual slight softening and integration did benefit the wine. Reading the prior notes from 2010, I'm a little surprised at how much the fruit has moved to the background and how much the wine has evidently tightened up over that time. I did get occasional hints of strawberry and blackberry, but overall this was pretty ungiving, woody/herbal/floral but not overtly green. Nice light texture and good structure. …

Really amazing how much ripe fruit Baudry was able to wring out of this vintage for this wine, which is deep purple in color and powerfully ripe on the palate. If it were a Bordeaux I'd feel sure it was the product of a big saignee and God knows what else. I concur with the prior notes. Green bell pepper and dusty aromatics. A unique combination of focus and depth. Minerality and tobacco. My only quibble is that it did close down after an hour.

What a nice nose. Supe complex and enticing. Very floral, some tobacco and mineral notes and little red berries but also some dark fruits in the background. I really enjoyed the tight minerality of this wine, very focused and with a beautiful sliky texture. Nevertheless, this needs, in my opinion, a few more years as it actually was better 4 days after being open.

so different from the 07 Clos Guillot, although these are from the same vineyard. they share an elegant and graceful character, but the fruit here is much darker and more earthy. this wine, with enough aeration, has a really broad and sappy finish, expansive and complex.

Liquid silk with an amazing scent of cigar smoke, herbs, fresh red and dark fruits and earthy/rocky notes. Wow.
