There's a rather arresting little ditty 'Skinboat to Tuna Town' that doesn't owe a lot to Schubert or his theorem, but the sense of joie de vivre inherent in this wine is the thing that connects it to the song. Sometimes I say, 'Don't tie yourself up in knots trying to work stuff out'. No string theory. As I am sure you all know, young Standish is the seed of 5 previous Barossan generations of skin boats to tuna town. …

A brief update - there is a saying - there is no such thing as a great vintage, there is only the great bottle. This is certainly true for this bottle. Similar profile to the last one except it is much more balanced, nuanced and has yumminess factor. Drink now to 7+ years.

Intellectually curious but no hedonistic joy to be had here though. 14 was not a great Barossa vintage and this bottle was an oddity. Took a very long time to open up but it is deep red and very rich. Great depth of flavours of menthol, dark fruit, red plums and currant. Body was intense but very light on its feet with nicely balanced acidity. So technically, it is all very fascinating but it is not an enjoyable wine, at …

Extreme concentration, not too jammy. The alcohol is present, but it’s not overwhelming or too visible. Impressive Shiraz! Left in decanter for 2 hours. A very powerful and dark bouquet with great depth, offering blackcurrant jam, warm elderberry juice, dark chocolate, “Plums in Madeira”, crushed black pepper, dark-roasted coffee beans, baked black olives, sweet tobacco, fresh leather, cured meat and mild hints of charcoal. Oak and spices like cinnamon, nutmeg and bayleaves, some floral and herbal notes of eucalyptus, menthol, …

A deep and ark purple colour. The nose is super-complex, with notes of blackberry, blood plum, menthol and floral spice. It is a dense and creamy wine, with layers of flavour, but light on its feet. Tannins are perfectly ripe and length phenomenal. Great balance and some much more in the tank.

Tertiary flavours showing great complexity , leather etc.. drinking well with 7 years age. Long length is special. Its a big bold wine. Poured in big wine glasses, no decanter, developed so much in a short time in the glass. Memorable.

Rock solid Barossa. Big on flavour. Drank well although still tight. Give 5 years and will be perfect.

Awesome wine. Dark to the core, full nose. Dark brooding fruit, so rich, yet balanced. Heavy palate, coating, then tannins attack, wood, fruit waves. Delicious.

Complex aromatics of black cherry, spice, blackberry and vanilla. It has good flesh in the mouth and really builds through the palate. Tannins are chalky and carry the wine to a long and savoury closure.
