One-hour decant through a screened and aerating funnel. Bold boysenberry fruit during decant. Some sediment in both the screen and the bottle. Wine was clear; deep crimson bowl lightening to a very slight amber rim. After resting, the bold fruit continued with added tobacco and dark chocolate notes. Perfect balance and a long finish of blackberries. I like older Zinfandels, but this wine exceeded all expectations. It presented much younger than the wines I drank on 11-29-2021 and 10-05-2022. My interest in older Zinfandels continues. Thirty-minute decant through a screened and aerating funnel. There was significant sediment captured in the screen. Sour cherry aromas during decant. After resting, wine was clear; deep crimson in bowl lightening to an amber rim with a medium halo. In the glass: sour cherry notes continued with an underpinning of some greenery. In the mouth: sour cherries and cranberries with bright (but not overpowering) acid, some slate and a slight cedary finish. About 45 …

Wow. Great wine. Decanted thru a strainer and drank over next 2+ hours while preparing dinner and during dinner. Kept evolving, so no detailed notes. Nearly opaque purple-red. Medium+ body. Spice, dark and red fruits kept swirling in and out. For my last bottle, I will take it it seriously with timer and a note pad.

Lots to like. After a brief decant I noted a very complex flavor with different elements dominating during different sips. Clean and satisfying with brambly, floral, some burnt orange and frequently black pepper taking their turns. Still "dusty tannins" and a long very slightly hot finish. This has certainly become smoother and better integrated since I first tasted it at ZAP in 2010.

Served without decanting. Deep red in color. 16.2% ABV. Raspberry liqueur, flowers and chalk on the nose. Medium body with medium acidity and a nice sense of balance. Raspberry compote, juicy blackberries and cracked black pepper on the palate. The finish is long and creamy with mellowing tannins. Drink over the next 1-2 years.

Wow. Lots of oak and pepper on opening. Almost too much in the glass. After about 10 minutes in the glass the oak seemed to subside and the pepper softened. Nevertheless, you are always aware of the Howell Mountain pepper. Dark red fruit bloomed on the nose and palate. I am really glad I have 3 more bottle of this. Give it time in the glass or a light decant - you will be rewarded

Decanted for 2 hours. Gorgeous on the nose with sweet figs and red berries. On the palate, this is full bodied, juicy, balanced, slightly astringent with good acidity and medium-long aftertaste. Just excellent! 92+

According to some, the window for this wine is closing soon. While that may or may not true, right now, this wine is at a really good place. The tannins are completely integrated - the fruit really shines, both on the nose and on the tongue. And the typical Zin pepper had calmed as well. Drink up if you're holding this!

Just a bit of heat at end otherwise well integrated. Did not appreciate pepper but ? ginger in nose. Rich and I could see what “dusted” by tannins meant. Very nice fruit and moderate length

Rating based on day #2 when the wine rounded out nicely. Viscous mouthfeel with typical zin flavors. Some spice but less bramble. Slightly sweet taste with well integrated structure. Slight carmel and raisin note which tempered my score.

Decanted 90 minutes. Drank in a non-blind, informal comparison among three 2007 Turleys and thee other zins from the same appellation as each Turley. This was drinking very nicely but was more refund than the Turleys, the Carlisle and the Dashe.

Nice zin! Full of zest and spice (almost oaky)- little alcohol but rubs off with a little time/air. Nice dark purple hue and very smooth on the mid/finish. Aging nicely. Almost a little too edgy for me. But given its a zin-- one hopes that it tastes this good.

PnP at end of dinner party. Mistake. Should have read my own notes. Needs more time or vigorous decanting.
