Ryme Chardonnay Ritchie Vineyard

Something off about this bottle. Just wasn't anything there compared to the others I've had.

November 2019 Trip to Sonoma : Full malo, but not overly done. The nose is unlike any chardonnay I've tasted: jasmine. Green tea. Stone/orchard fruit. On the palate, it's like a waxy chenin-blanc in texture, but more of the jasmine tea and some melon. Really fun chardonnay.

Upon first opening nose had a small bit of funk, after about 30 minutes this blew off, nose of citrus and yellow apple, flavors were more citrus oriented (lemon and lime), with some oak influence of creme brulee and custard flavors in the background. Mild to moderate acidity, medium length finish. Was nice, paired well with lentils in lemon juice and fresh basil, didn't pair as nicely with a baked chicken. Reminds me a bit of a Chablis.

A prior bottle of this was enjoyable but we both felt that in the case of this one the oak had come to the fore while much of the fruit had dissipated, leaving a level of wood we didn't particularly care for. The acidity is OK, and there's some apple. I found this unbalanced, though, and not very pleasurable. Not heartbroken that this only bottle is now gone.
