Vine To Mind: A day of tasting in the Valais (Valais, Switzerland) : Ahhh, this has blossomed. Smoky, peppery and meaty notes simply burst out of the glass. Silky, layered and complex, still with plenty of structure. If you love Rhone Syrah you have to love this.

A matter of taste 2024 (Kongresshalle, Zürich) : *** Brief notes from wine fair, primarily for my own memory *** Glass: Stölzle Universal Clear, deep ruby color. Deep, fruity and floral (violets) nose. Way more advanced than 2018, lacks a bit acidity, slowly reaching its peak. Also very beautiful. 92-93

Everything you hope for in Syrah, bacon black pepper, meaty, gamey and a combination of blue and black fruits. Ripe and fine tannins, high acidity that keeps the wine fresh as a daisy. All in balance and long. Nowhere close to tired, drank very well and can develop further but so delicious now.

Magnum, decanted 1.5 hours. Dark garnet with suspended sediment. Lovely bouquet of licorice/floral notes. Lively, north Rhone character that envelopes the palate quickly in a warm caress. Oak notes prominent but not overbearing - dark cherry profile with a long final and excellent balance. Fragrant, lifted and long. Really excellent.

Covid19 - Zoom virtual tasting Swiss Wines (Singapore/Virtual) : A bit closed a first but then opened up with a typical Cote Rotie Syrah nose around smoke, pepper, bacon and dark fruit. The palate is medium bodied with bright acidity. A wine that convinced many including myself.

Did not know this wine, layers of mainly red and blue fruit, spicy, good structure and length. Very good wine.

Cayas no longer needs any introductions. This outstanding Syrah, which was ranked among the world’s top Syrah a few years ago, continues being outstanding under the management of Gilles Besse and the vintages are always among Switzerland’s top reds. The wine is clearly in its early years and some 4 hours of decanting were a good idea. As one could expect the colour is very dark and intense. On the nose, spices, leather and toast. In the mouth, elegance, balance …

Syrah from vineyards on the slopes around the Rhone Valley in Balavaud, Vétroz and Chamoson et Fully in the Valais. Twelve months in oak, 50% new. Deep ruby with a purple rim. A generous mix of red and black berries accented with black pepper and balsamic aromas. An understated start on the palate intensifying slowly in the glass. Meaty with an intriguing spicyness on the long aftertaste.

DWCC Iconic Swiss Varietals with Mr. Paolo Basso (Montreux, Switzerland) : Smoky, a bit of reduction, loaded with black pepper notes. Big structure with black and red fruit. Very savory with a licorice element. Really serious Syrah.

Deep dark ruby with violett highlights. Blackberry, lemon thyme, intense black pepper, a touch of vanilla and raw game meat. The full body and abundant fleshy tannins are intensely flavoured with fresh ground black pepper, olive, band-aid, and anise. Bracing acidity. Plenty of potential for further evolvement and ageing.

Quite a lot of new wood to begin with, needs a lot of time to open up. After about three hours the syrah emerges with black pepper, raspberries and blackberries. Very solid taste with impeccable fruit and lots of structure for laying down. Spicy tannins, a bit oaky for now. Very promising wine, should evolve to a real beauty after ten years or so.

Very young in 2009. Deep purple color wiht blue hues. Made to impress with its ripe fruit. Seemed to me overextracted and a little disjointed. Might become better with aging.
