Young Marquis d'Angerville Volnay Clos des Ducs Dinner (Formento's - Chicago IL) : Ripe apple with very good power. Slightly nutty notes give a very Meursault character. Still nicely vibrant vs many 2004s at this level.

Drunk 16 days ago and my memory is of a superior Meursault. Good acidity, flavor and lightness of body. It was far better than my previous bottle (which was quite nice.) Probably Excellent or Excellent to Outstanding.

Citrus and a bit of vanilla aromas when first opened, then with time becoming more stony with flowers and toast. Very big on the palate with some citrus and lots of mineral and acid zing. Kind of pow! blam! It's a big wine, not overly complex but it flaunts what it has. It went great with simple broiled halibut over chickpeas with butter, parsley and lemon and a side of roasted asparagus with pistachio oil. Excellent.

Lanolin and hint of butter and pear. Massive acidity, with some very slight celery notes at the end. A somewhat less than generous wine, but a good food wine nonetheless. Could be drunk now or over the next 3-4 years, though I don't see it improving massively.

3 attempted over several days: one was Premoxed, one was on the verge, and the third was very enjoyable with the smokiness of Meursault. One more to go and it's going to be gone very soon. Recommend drinking up!

Very youthful and fresh with an aroma of rocket, mint, white peach, lemons and almond. It is lean with a high tensile citric acid spine. There are some nice subtle toasty development notes and it is crisp and refreshing with areal cool fruit feel.

Has a cooler, green, somewhat floral note redolent of lantana baking in the hot Aussie summer sun. There are whiffs of lemon curd, shale, mint and a touch of nougat. It is linear and skinnier than many would like but I enjoyed it very much for its freshness and energy. It breathes nicely in the glass and seems to put on a little sinewy flesh to its high tensile frame as it sucks in more oxygen.

La Paulée de New York 2011 : Big step up from the St Aubin, unsurprisingly; less oak, fascinating asphalt tone, still quite oaky on palate though, which saps my passion for this.

Some 2004 Meursault : Moving on in this tasting progression to a "duxieme" cru. Tight and closed at first, but after about an hour it opened to show pretty aromas of lemon, white flower, mineral and a little bit of nutiness and toasted oak. Medium-plus bodied with good acidity, this got better as it sat out with more and more time as it got rounder and started to show some spicy complexity. I will probably wait at least another 3 …

There are white flowers, ginger and lime blossom notes on the nose. It is piercing and compact in the mouth and quite shy. There’s a big squeeze of lemon juice and loads of minerals with the faintest sheath of sappy orchard fruits. It possesses the most rigid of spines and is extremely backwards.
