The color was a lovely amber/orange. This wine is in the zone, and lots of apricot notes. This showed a lot of texture in the mouth--maybe is the perception of tannins?--that was totally fascinating. A unique and delicious wine that also played well with the lobster.

Deep amber in the glass, like tree sap. Aromas of dried apricot, peach pits, bergamot, orange peel, orange marmalade. Complex as fuck. Body is medium with a somewhat mellow acidity, grippy tannins and low abv. Feels like it's at its peak right now, not that exciting as some other vintages I've had from Gravner. Still a good wine though, great intro to orange wine.

Been wanting to try a Josko wine, orange color then looked like brandy, smells like very old red wine, orange peel, some citrus, kept opening up, full bodied, paired with roast duck, bitter & tannic at start then caramel, leafy, very distinct, one of a kind wine, still youthful, meditative wine, outstanding 94+

First bottle in 10 years and it shows no sign of closing down. Gorgeous crystal like orange hue with impeccable finesse and finish.

Deep copper color. Nose is metallic and orange pulp. Round in the mouth. You can feel the prescience of former tannins flitting about. Hints of thyme--- practically savory at this point (fascinating!). Minerally, with texture otf. A real treat to drink a historic wine (Gravner's first amphora vintage).

While this lacks the drive of Gravner's 2002, it is still pretty fantastic stuff. Very ripe, exotic fruit aromas, beautiful nutty tannins, notes of honey and almond. Maturing effortlessly, certainly many more years of life. This was the very first amphora (qvveri) vintage at Gravner. It tastes wonderfully assured, and certainly not experimental in any way.

2017 Sella Ronda Ski Trip; 1/12/2017-1/15/2017 (Alta Badia, Italy) : A very interesting, unique and fascinating wine. Gold/Orange with a coppery hue in colour. Good firm wine with an underlying fruit core, light oxidative touches and a long finish. Very unique in a way but a good wine, not some curiosity or experiment , this is the real deal. Worthy experience. 92+

This was served to us with appetizers and although interesting, I do not think this is ready yet - keep 5-10 years?

Lovely nose of baked apple and a real cinnamon note. The palate is fascinating, layered and well balanced. Sweeter fruit than the Breg Anfora alongside it but with the same grip and savoury nutty, saline character on the finish. Very good.

Clean. Initially served too chilled. Better after warmed. Great paired with charcuterie. Flinty on nose, more complex on palate. Orange color.

Medium amber. Faint aromas of herbs and stones. Initial flavors of watered down sherry, slight nutiness. Most predominate is an unusual texture -- pronounced astringency but without significant tannins. I have the feeling that this bottle is past its prime.

copper color, dry and constantly evolving. I think this will benefit from more bottle age. Very food friendly and interesting on its own..

A chameleon of a wine. Not so much orange as burnished gold by now. Poured from bottle cellar temp. At first, very austere, tight, bordering on harsh with some butterscotch and yellow fruits, plums? peeking through. With an hour out, huge, creamy palate, great balancing acidity, well incorporated fine tannins, a complete package. Accompanied roasted Rougets, potatoes, and carrots, all treated simply. The flavors harmonious. Great depth and persistence on this wine. The creaminess hints at honey and lanolin but …

Pale salmon in color with a tinge of orange. Slight oxidation on the nose and palate, but it wasnt out of place. Medium bodied with a great mouthfeel. Very different from any wine I have had before. Could not readily distinguish the various flavors - complex. My wife kept commenting on how different it was - that she wasn't sure that she liked it - but we had no problem in finishing the bottle. The more we drank it, the …

From memory. Yellow-orange. Still a weird wine; kind of orange peel and spices on the nose, with honey undertones. Palate has plenty of acidity, grip and complexity but alcohol pokes through. Short-medium length. Glad to try, but glad its my last bottle.

Purchased 1 bottle for the experience. Galioni suggested Uncorking before, but not decanting. Tasted it uncorked, and initially acidic pineapple noted and light color. After recorking a 2+ hrs laster, and travelling to restaurant was now golden orange with good acidity. I liked it, however the others acknowledged it was worth the experience, but not to be repeated.

Golden color. This is a wine for people who like to see wine-making on the edge. Stones on the nose. Maybe its because I know how its made, but I'm sure there was the taste of clay in the mouth. Good length and a wine that will stand up to formidable food.

Amber-ish color. Structured, not so much on the nose, which is to be expected from a 9yo wine. Apricot, tangerine, stone fruit, honey. Definitely interesting and a wine you don't get bored of....but I like the Breg much better.

A great and unique wine. Not surprisingly stone on both the nose and the palate. Definite honey, and wonderful balanced wine, which is not what you would expect from this winemaking. It was great with a cream soup.

"Orange" Wines (white grapes fermented w/extended skin contact) (The Jug Shop, San Francisco, California) : Medium orange color with clarity and clear meniscus; nice almond, pistachio, green herb nose; tight, tart, creamy tangerine, tart clementine, mineral and smoke palate; medium-plus finish

Orange Wines (white grapes fermented with extended skin contact) Blindtasted (La Ciccia, San Francisco, California) : Light orange color; focused, creamy, tart mandarin orange nose with some VA; tight, tart lemon, tart orange, mandarin orange slices, mineral palate with a sense of salinity; medium finish 90+ pts. (6 to 7 month maceration on skins in terracotta amphorae, followed by 3 yrs in "botte," large barrels that are used vintage after vintage)

Orange Sunshine (skin-fermented white wines) (La Ciccia, San Francisco) : Subtle, nuanced orange/apricot and dessert-like salted caramel aromatics. Subtle, tight palate, with classic marmalade and mandarin, saline and nicely textured. With time a slightly oxidized, creamy old wood component comes out, perhaps an indication of the 36 months this spend in cask. At room temperature there's slight warmth from alcohol; just a few degrees lower would take care of this. I liked this, but for me it was less focused …

Deep gold with tones of amber and orange. Floral on the nose with oxidized tones and some white stone fruit. Slightly particulate and astringent mouthfeel, medium minus acidity, apricots and ripe apple on the palate. An interesting wine- clearly done with skin contact. Unique, but not really worth the $80 price tag.

Lovely honey and pear nose with plenty of stone. The stone really comes into its own on the palete. Are you really tasting the actual Anfora? It is hard not to think so. The structure of the stone is backed up with fruit and a strange (but not unpleasant) hollowness which is more structure than mistake. Definitely a wine to taste rather than socialize over. Had it over two nights and the oxidization kicked in on the second night - …

From memory. Lunch with Deron and Julia. Orange yellow and almost cloudy. Nose was powerful but initially came across like Joly's wines very phenolic. With air, cherry pit, orange rind and dried fruit flavours came out. Tasted quite tannic, medium acidity, with some bitterness on the back end. Quite spicy, with medium length. Weird wine for sure and am not sure how much I liked it still.

A few drinks with Fisher, Noble and Gruner (Seattle, WA) : As with most Gravner, this took some work to wrap my head around it. Deep copper color. Notions of turpentine and chlorine on the nose (corked?) give way after a few hours to much more appealing smells. Mmm, hits you like a red wine on the palate, firm, grippy, nutty, deeply mineral and salty. An eclectic wine in a varied lineup but just so interesting and bizarre.

Totally different wine. The bouquet is very distinctive and is stone - not wet gravel, but quarry like stone. Served it cold like normal white wine, which was a mistake. Advice serving it slightly chilled, or at room temperature. The bouquet is fascinating. After that the taste is full bodied, long finish and has flinty, structured fruit. As commented elsewhere - a polarizing wine - I'm for it.

I wish I liked this more. Rich mango, apple cider, and honey flavors, but with an oxidized taste that reminded me of an apple left cut and exposed to air. Maybe I prefer Damijian's style to his master's....

Extremely interesting, complex and yummy wine. First wave is mango, followed by black cherry, a really bright flavor profile, then these fine tannins drift in, and I'm left with a sense of superb overall balance. Love it.
