Aromas of Oak, spice box, plumb sauce and earth. Did not detect any green, nor herbaceous notes. Yes, I agree oak was a bit too dominant in the aroma. Flavor was darker fruits and still plumb and ripe blueberries. Yes, tannins, but a good level to reign in the delicious fruit. Chalk/limestone terroir was also on the finish. Overall, a fine example of St. Emilion from a vintage that was about balance. 2008 Right Banks are drinking beautifully now.

Getting some more tertiary characteristics but still lots of bold fruit.

Decanter Fine Wine Encounter (The Landmark, London) : Medium minus intensity aromas of oak, plum, sweet spice, very slightly gamey note with a herbaceous underpin, a little brambly note as well. Medium plus intensity mouth watering acidity, again preposterously woody tannins are chalky and dominate the palate. What is the purpose of this wine? Surely the idea is to sample the terroir of the grapes not the oak forest...

Drinking very well. PnP, not a lot of change over the 2 hours it took to finish the bottle. Elegant wine with just a touch of acid and tannin and some cassis and cedar.

Really nice St Emilion here, really nice for an ‘off year’. Ripe cherry, some plum, very nice nose, medium-long finish. A smidge of pine! 93 here. Tastes like it’s in prime drinking window to me.

Medium bodied. Very good in general. A solid effort on an under $40 bottle. Moderate tannins give this some time on its side but I'm not convinced the fruit will hold out. Mature red fruit of dried cherry and cranberry. Drink now.

Modern in style and yummy. At nearly 11 years old, it's youthful and vivid. Round black and red plum flavors predominate with a bit of black licorice flavor. Balanced and altogether lovely.

Beautiful core of fruit and shows smoke and tobacco leafs on the nose. Silky smooth on the palate, medium to long to finish. This is another delicious ‘08!

This is a wonderful Right Bank Bordeaux which seems to be coming into its own. Clear medium ruby, showing no signs of age. Developing, pronounced and complex aromatics showing spicy red currant, dark ripe cherry, juicy plum, leafy tobacco, dark chocolate, and some iron. Lush and balanced in the mouth which really showcases a flavor profile which mimics the aromatics.Tannins are fine grained with an acidic backbone which enhances the very long, mouth watering finish. Medium body and medium alcohol. …

Fairly closed after a 2 hour decant. Fruit was available on the nose but the palate was locked. A few more years needed.

Put in decanter, gone before meaningful oxidation could occur. Disjointed, a little flat on the initial pour, showing beautiful black fruit, cedar, graphite during the last glass. Nice structure, a touch of flab but believe that would have gone too with more air.

Regular dinner group (By PvD @ Savarin) : The bouquet is still very youthful and shows dark forest fruits and beautiful oak. Same on the palate; very juicy, good acidity, minerals and concentration. Round and youthful tannin. Already enjoyable, but this will improve for the better for at least 5 years. Next try around 2018 and probably even more beautiful in the 2020's. 92 for tonight.

08 Vieux Chateau Mazerat comes from Mazerat, a sector that abuts Chateau Angelus. 2008 marks the debut for this wine. With 65% merlot and 35% cabernet franc, from some vines almost 60 years old, this floral, mineral, smoky, dark fruited wine is nicely concentrated. It finishes with plush sensations of boysenberry and dark, black cherry. 90-93 Pts
