I so agree with the last comment. I opened this, the 10th of 12 bottles with no great expectation. All the others had been a bit mean and green but astonishingly this drank beautifully on a pop and pour. Tannin fully resolved, deep rich sweet fruit and poised acidity. Wish I still had the other 10 but this is drinking beautifully.

Definitely drinking at its peak. Great classic Margaux characteristics with good balance of earth and fruit. Time to drink up.

Medium purple in glass with a slightly ruby rim. Pronounced intensity on the nose. Plums, cigar box, vanilla, violets and coconut. Lush and modern in style. New oak. High acidity and intense high tannins that need time. Good finish. Hold for at least 3-5 years.

A little big and brash, but easy to enjoy. Purpleish fruit, violet, coffee beans. Rather tannic, but still lovely with food; fragrant, full of swagger.

Having only had the chance to encounter this en primeur and at the UGC (thus never with the opportunity to follow it), I was glad to cross paths again, even if the encounter was similarly brief and full of other wines. I recall this as quite extracted and woody, but tonight's meeting was more promising. The nose was impressive, plush, round, fragrant; purple-fruited as Lascombes tends to be, a little cocoa powder. Perhaps missing some of the depth of loftier …

James Suckling NYC event 2026 Once again this wine is intriguing. The aromatics are classic "Margaux". It is smokey with tobacco and leather flavors in mouth. Mid palette turns to earth and iron with very dark fruit notes. Very present acidity and a large dosage of tannin. This is true to the Margaux region style. The wine does not disappoint and is built to improve over the next decade.

Beautiful wine. Violets and plum on the nose; black cherry and red berries on the palate, with notes of plum, rose petal, leather, and earthy spices on the medium to long finish, with fine light tannins and well-balanced acidity. This opened up over a couple of hours, so the Cellartracker drinking window is too short, although I doubt this will improve much. This is outstanding, especially given the reputation of the vintage.

Still an excellent bottle more than 5 years later, smooth and resolved and a fine example of a modern Margaux. No need to wait but neither is it falling apart.

-- decanted 15 min. before initial taste -- -- tasted non-blind over 4 hrs. -- NOSE: expressive and dark-fruited, with some sweet oak. BODY: garnet-violet color of great depth, with a hint of bricking throughout; medium bodied. TASTE: relaxed, but still tastes primary; moderate oak (more of an oak presence than with prior bottles); ripe flowers; red licorice; fine, drying, tannins; medium+ acidity; tiny little gamey hint on the finish after a few hrs open. Overall, very good, but I …

This was a very soft and sumptuous appearance for this wine. Lots of velvet and micro sanded sueded tannins in an earthy pacakage that shows the soft, elegant, and refined style of Margaux. Night flowers, brewed coffee and lots and lots of chocolate and cocoa, telling me this is all there is, so catch it now and enjoy. Just realized I have 9 bottles left...So, ay ay captain, message in the bottle received. Drink!

Enjoyable, full‑package wine at the peak of maturity, with attractive fruit on both the nose and palate, emerging secondary flavors, and a soft structure. The only drawback for me is that most of those secondary notes seem to come from the oak.

This wine is drinking beautifully now. It has vibrant dark fruit flavors, bright acidity, smooth tannins, secondary notes of cedar and leather and a medium long finish. I think this is a great time to drink up but it could develop even more complex secondary notes with more bottle time.

Decanter Fine Wine Encounter (The Landmark, London) : Rich and ripe, the merlot in the ascendancy for me at the moment, plums, sweet oak spice, there is a little blackcurrant compote. It's a bit clumsy on the palate, silky soft black tea tannins, still very cedary oak, fruit a little muted. Time.

Little did I know of the heavy hitters I was drinking with at Chateau Aronson last night or I would have chosen another set of wines to bring. My very best bottles of this one were had back in '21 and '22, both scored a 94 and even held their own one night against a '96 MoutonR. This bottle, not so much. Given a quick splash decant for sediment at home, then under stopper for our event 4 hours later. …

excellent at the opening when you tell the Bordeaux style at the nose and at the palate with scents and a touch of oak. It is supposed to be in its best drinking window but at this point I'm not sure it is. Maybe in this case the prime time is just gone for a while. Pleasant of course but after so many years in my cellar expectations were higher. After a bike ride to Scoglina and Forcella pass

Tannins almost completely integrated with no decanting. Very delicate. Tertiary notes are there, but not overly pronounced. Opened up a bit after about 30 minutes or so in glass. I suspect it is past its prime, but hoping the tertiary notes develop. Might need some time in bottle to wake up again. Nevertheless, perfect to pair with medium intensity food, like a good steak without the frills of sauces.

PNP and ready for business very quickly, this performed better than my bottle last year and was exactly what you hope for in aged Bordeaux. Bright elegant black currant/cassis-driven fruit typical of Margaux, still quite ruby at the rim with no bricking, the wine felt young and silky despite its 20 years but delivered great strength, integrated tannins, some spice and leather and some menthol with a long finish. A great ride.

After 1 hour, on the nose a strong whiff of earth, terrior, dried tea leaves. The red fruit is in the backend, oak is non existent with meat juices. Milk chocolate is now revealing itself in the mix. Plummy fruits. Lovely and very complex. On the palette, classic red fruits with a very smooth finish. Tannins are in the very backend but not too grippy. With more air, get a pleasant orange peel component. Finish feels a little short as …

Consistent with last note. This is in the zone and essentially a pop and pour. It does improve with air, so don’t let your friends guzzle it. One or two hours of bottle breathing, and it’s a lovely mature Margaux. No hurry on these, but no reason to wait.

Very dark garnet color, and absolutely pristine cork. Should note that I purchased this wine directly from the chateau during a visit, so the first decade+ was impeccably stored. Stored in a 55 degree cellar upon purchase. Decanted one hour. Lovely bouquet showing qualities of both youth and maturity. Fresh red fruits, cherries, dusty violets, and dried herbs, along with just a hint of oak. On the palate the cherries and red fruits lead, with hints of black tea, cedar, …

Drank alongside a 2001 Bruno Clair Dominode Both 2001s were roughly the same price and tested the hypothesis that BDX tends to over-deliver relative to Burg for the same price point. Clearly the Dominode was better, in terms of texture, tannic elegance and sapidity. Very youthful and fleshy almost without being at all heavy. Lascombes was also fairly primary (blackcurrant etc still there, no flowers) but marred by a slight touch of Brett and also Cab Sauv tannin gives it …

The 2022 stood out as fresh and approachable, but also demonstrating balance, a rich array of dark fruit, a lingering finish on the palate, and ample acidity for aging in what is emerging as a truly exceptional vintage. Probably a good idea to lay a few of these bottles down in the cellar.

Dark, remarkably so. Saw dusty nose. Tight and strong. Not showing its age at all. Acid finish needs some breathing (and food). A good year for Margaux (ignore people relying on Bordeaux average ratings). This was obviously rather extracted, even more than Giscours which eventually came right so fingers crossed for this intense thing. Seems 10 years younger than it is, and I have a warm Australian cellar! cork, 13%

Coravin fun - Bordeaux (My place, Burwood) : From Coravin. Blackcurrant, bramble, wild plums. Cedar, oak spice, slight lactic note, a little baked earth, meaty notes, mint, forest floor in support. Medium plus intensity acidity is juicy, black hued fruits are quite fleshy, tannins are silky persistent with a slight leathery quality, all travel long. Integrated, Yum.
