Jean-Claude Ramonet Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Champs Canet

This is quite rich with slightly oxidyzed notes, mingling with almond milk, bruised apple and ripe stone fruits scents, then bubble butted, thick, and rich mouthfeel with complex decadent stone fruit flavors, some oak lurking in the background, lacks tension and acidity to achieve balance, but still enjoyable. I had hopes it would be better. I personally prefer Ramonet on cold years with plenty of zip and acidity, to counterbalance the rich and decadent style.Drink up.

Vibrant aromas of white peach, apricot and hawthorn blossom deepen into toasted almond and warm spice as the wine opens. On the palate it is broad and silky, with a rich, buttery midpalate balanced by bright acidity and a fine mineral thread that gives lift to a long finish. I find this 2015 particularly compelling for its seamless blend of opulence and freshness, capturing Ramonet’s signature precision in a generous, age-worthy style.

The farewell for KK (Pall Mall) : This was a slightly odd showing. Bouquet tropical and ripe with pineapples, yellow apples and sudachi. There was power and length here in spades with lychee and musk melon emerging mid-palate. However, perhaps this was a bit young? Was pretty linear and quite unlike the house style.

B-B-M | B-M | C-M flight. This was very expressive out of the gate (particularly compared to the more reserved, ascending Batard). Grand cru concentration of fruit that is open-knit and layered. At peak, yet not quite as good as prior tastings, perhaps because of the flight.

Kevin's 60th Birthday Celebration (Asador Bastian - Chicago IL) : In Ramonet 2015 Grand Cru flight. Floral and wonderfully rich, so well spiced, just gorgeous right out of the gate. Nicely fresh despite the obvious ripeness. At a great place now.

Two weeks in France; 4/12/2024-4/24/2024 : Wow I haven’t had the chance to have many Ramonets but thankful to have found this for a reasonable price off a wine list. This went through three phases; (i) reticent with only the signature Ramonet spearmint note showing, (ii) became more expressive but the vanilla note dominated, (iii) attained a perfect balance. Burgundy Dinner with Friends (71 Above - Los Angeles CA) : Alongside the Leflaive. Ripe peach and baked apple come across as powerful and fleshy. There is enough structure to support these wonderful flavors, but I would err on drinking these within the next five years.

Ramonet 2015 tasting at Grand Hotel, Oslo. My personal favourite and the most mineral wine in the flight. Extremely vibrant, with fresh acidity, chalk and saline charachter. Flavours of baked lemon, white peach, pear, mint, oak and vanilla. Lean and long. Delicious!

Burgundy Dinner with Friends (Formento's - Chicago IL) : Vintage ripeness jumps out with rich and powerful orchard fruit, but plenty of structure just off the main stage. Long, layered finish. Upside from here, but the tired '15 Ruchottes in the next glass makes me pause.

Expressive from the get go, with aromas of honeysuckle, white peach, mango and pineapple husk. It is full and layered and so silky of texture. There's a thread of light spice running through the flavour profile and whilst acidity is gentle the finish is bright and energetic and has minerally precision. Length is terrific.

Tasty drinking, this really shows the vintage’s heat with a rich, somewhat fat profile. arguably not one for aging (some question whether it was advancing). it was paired with a 10 and 14 which emphasized the layers of fruit, but lack of tension. While I would have liked more acidity, at least for my taste there was a nice line of minerals that added intrigue

Ramonet 2015 Horizontal / Rousseau Older CSJ Vertical (RPM Steak - Chicago IL) : Served single blind alongside the Chassage Ruchottes. This is fantastically concentrated with ripe apple with a slightly tropical kiss with savory spice notes. This is perfectly harmonious with a very long finish. Already excellent now, with upside.

Friday Night Ramonet & Rousseau (RPM Steak - Chicago, IL) : Wow, what a spectacular deep and intense nose. Fat orchard fruit with just a kiss of stone and tropical sweetness, accented by smoky mineral. Palate is so concentrated with rich, pure, bright fruit. This is young but in perfect harmony. So fucking long with remarkable richness and finesse in the finish.

Medium yellow, and daybright. Upfront aromas of ripe peach and vanilla. Fresh acids and a little heft, with ripe lemon flavours, cream, cinnamon, nutmeg, and bit of brine and caramel. Long finish and complex. Nice!

FWSG 2015 White Burg horizontal tasting. Drank in Gabriel Standart. Appearance is clear, pale intensity, lemon colour. Legs. Nose is clean, medium+ intensity, with aromas of white honeysuckle flowers, stony minerality, white peach, citrus lemon-lime, sweet mint leaf. Developing. Has the classic Bienvenues honeysuckle thing going on. There’s a whiff of toast and pure white peach too. It is generous and rich, but still very fresh and energetic. Lovely poise.

The wine had the usual Ramonet spearmint, coupled with ripe peach fruits. It had good volume in the mouth, with a fruit-sweet heart and whilst acidity felt gentle the wine lacked no energy or precision. A little bowl of fresh guacamole that had been heightened by a generous squeeze of lemon juice, led us into the meal properly.
