My oldest bottle of Norello. And I can say it is holding up quite well, though the acid is becoming a little separated. Good red Cherry fruit, herbal notes, polished and textured by the time in new oak. Still quite a structured wine - with very present acid and tannin that linger on the finish and are quite drying. The new oak shows. Too modern for me. Don't wait too much longer. $37.95 on release.

My fifth bottle, but the first in seven years. Opened, poured through a gravity aerator, and served without decanting, this wine (L50309) was immediately and intensely aromatic. There was a smokiness, that I do not remember from the previous bottles, along with a general earthiness that have taken prominence over the sweet florals that had previously characterized the wine. It also shows rosemary and sweet dark fruits, with good acidity, silky tannins, and a long mineral finish. It still has …

Un grande vino. Davvero elegante e finissimo. Poteva rimanere in cantina altri anni senza decadere. Le terziarizzazioni ci sono e si …

Double decanted, 1 hour. Very tight on opening, edgy tannin and dark red fruit, black cherry. Opened up with second decant and more air time. Great dark cherry, black berry, mineralty, maybe some herbal and floral hints, lively with acidity but balances out with fruit and stone. Good length, fine finish with tannin integrating along the way. Depth comes with some tension rather than lushness, as other notes suggest; too, age appears to have helped.

Couleur claire, assez brillante, nez discret, frais, légèrement épicé, bouche un peu austère mais élégante, tannins présents, un peu séchards, fruit, belle longueur

This is lean and savory in an old world style with black cherry fruit and dusty tannins. There is a neat flavor of volcanic minerals on the finish and a touch of bitterness. Best with Sicilian-style pasta.

Popped and poured through gravity aerator, this wine immediately showed a strong aromatic profile, with sweet flowers, honeysuckle, mint, rosemary, sweet plum and wet soil; firm acidity, prominent tannins, and a long mineral finish with flavors of nocino / eaux de noix. Fabulous.

Certainly has a very northern Italian sensibility about it. Bright and focused red fruit on the nose, with a refreshing quality on the palate imparted by a strong core of minerality. Subtly spicy and ashy. A hint of herbal bitterness towards the finish. The tannins, unfortunately, have retained an angular edge and I'm not sure if it will go away.

Tasted blind. First impression is quite rusty and tired with serious tannin structure and little fruit to support it. Sour, with a vestige of VA, lots of extract, some pretty interesting aromatics; mint, rosemary, potpourri, but no cohesion or harmony here. Given that others' notes mention fruit I'm guessing this wasn't a proper bottle. Guessed a worn out Nebbiolo, but on reveal this really reminds me of Calabretta.

Tasted blind. I'm inferring some maturity based on both the color and the nose. Some earthy spice which reminds me of Northern Italy. The framing around this is very nice, but the fruit seems to disappear in the middle. Very tannic. It put on a little bit of weight after an hour, but it also became even more tannic. Reminds me of a stubborn, aggressive Barolo.

Dekanted for 3 hours. Color is light red. Nice nose with a lot of cherries and some strawberries as well as some floral notes. In the mouth still tannic and a lot of minerality with a great balance sweetness and acidity. Same notes as in the nose with some leather, spicyness and cinnamon. Has a looong finish. Great wine. Need more of this and it still has a long way to go.

I took this from the cellar by mistake, I had wanted a different Terre Nere, but once I had it in the dining room I went ahead and opened it anyway. My first instincts were right, it is still not ready, consistent with my previous notes and with Jerwin1943. That said, it is evolving, even if slowly, as sweet floral elements have become more prominent in the nose, which remains very complex, even as the palate remains tight and austere. …

Great acidity, some tertiary notes on the nose. Fine tannins but slightly bitter. I'd say the wine is at peak and should be drunk in the next 2 years. QPR is not good though, especially compared to the Etna Rosso

Opened and decanted for about 30 minutes. The nose has some pleasant notes of florals, dried herbs and licorice that build with air. The palate is still very firm and structured, with swaths of red berries, currants and tar that are overtaken by a big wall of tannins near the back end; This is showing lots of potential, but in need of more time (or at least extended air) to tame the severity of the tannins.

This was the first of 12 bottles purchased at retail mid 2013 and properly kept. It was decanted for 3 hours with half reserved to a 375ml and refrigerated. It was served with Gnocchi and a fresh Marinara sauce, meatballs, and oven baked eggplant slices with sauce and parmesan. On first pour, the color was an unusually bright medium garnet with only a hint of edge bricking. My aromatic and palate impressions were closely aligned with those of PaulusLoZebra so …

Very tight still. Tannins have mellowed but are still robust and angular. Aroma and flavor were both subtle and perhaps will open with further aging. Dried strawberry, cherry.

LPV Oslo tasting at Bertrand and Vero. Was left non plussed by this bottle as this wine is not looking like it is going anywhere since my previous note. No gain in complexity or development of secondary or tertiary aromas. As a matter of fact, far from blending together it seemed the various components of the wine are slowly starting to dissociate. I hope the wine is not starting to fall apart but I am not really tempted to try …

Opened another bottle. I would add only one item to my previous notes: the wine tastes even more tannic, younger and less ready than in February. Based on this bottle, my revised ideal drinking window is 2015-2025. Notes from February: "Typical medium-light garnet color of the Nerello grapes. Powerful, ethereal fragrance of bright red fruits with deep mineral notes, hints of mint, thyme and rosemary. Dry, supple tannins, residual sweetness, a hint of vanilla, and a very long, vinous finish. …

Typical medium-light garnet color of the Nerello grapes. Powerful, ethereal fragrance of bright red fruits with deep mineral notes, hints of mint, thyme and rosemary. Dry, supple tannins, residual sweetness, a hint of vanilla, and a very long, vinous finish. Excellent acidity, a bit young and lip-smacking today, it will develop over the next few years, drinking window till 2025 or longer under ideal storage conditions. As the Italians would say, a wine for meditation, like the great wines of …

A lean and taut style of wine but with air it began to show excellent red fruit flavors with strong notes of volcanic ash and dark minerals. Then it builds to a fine finish with dusty, dry tannins and complex notes of pine and minerals. I really like this and it was fabulous with beef cheeks pot de feu at Vinegar Hill House in Brooklyn. Should still improve in the cellar.

All of the above (after long decanting) but it's a mistake to touch this wine before 2015 in my opinion. Tannins still quite tough.
