I read TCWG's review before choosing this wine. It was spot on. The 2012 was wonderful. With that said it is just past it's peak and on the downward slope. I agree it's time to drink up and enjoy a well aged beauty.

Still drinking beautifully but time to enjoy any remaining bottles. I’ve always loved 8-10 year WS wines, especially those 90s vintages, but the modern versions lose some of the appeal I enjoyed when Burt was making the wines. The acidity is still incredible but I find WS loses some of the balance in their 10 yr+ in bottles that Burt managed to maintain with his winemaking. Another excellent 2012 Selyem. They really had a great year but the wines took a long time to reach their potential. As many notes atest, drinking it early was a mistake. Based on that TN, this bottle was decanted for 30 minutes (with slight sediment) during which the wine opened and darkened. Notes of dark red fruits and some earth on the nose. Lots of black cherry, along with some red cherry, cranberry, earth and spice on the medium bodied palate. Juicy but balancing acidity, with all tannins integrated. Decanted for 1 hour (some sediment), but better with an additional 30 minutes as it darkened and added body. Clear medium ruby in the glass. The nose was clean and offered up lots of dark red fruits and some earth. The medium bodied palate showed an abundance of dark red fruits, along with lots of earth, and some spice. The wine is incredible right now. Very surprised to see it drinking so well, but the wine still has impressive fruit, with cherries and raspberries showing. Structure of the wine has mellowed some which makes it so drinkable. Really happy to see this as we have a few more bottles left.
