Standard port blend. Brooding ruby in the glass with violet hues painting the glass indicating heavy extraction. Very luscious fruit with fine, softer tannins. Abv is at 20% balancing out with the moderate acidity. Long finish.

Not fancy, but solidly good

Purchased as part of a mixed case of mid-70's to late-80's wine (from a craigslist cellar, for a song)- based on that, and the intense tawny/brick color, along with the gentle oxidative character, I'd guess this NV Port was also from around that time. Not sure if there's any way to actually know the release timeframe based on any of the label into. I won't rate it because I don't have much experience with aged port yet, only limited times …

Fruity, a tawny adjacent ruby

Boy, I feel like the Wine Spectator over rating wines! This was tasted blind against a bunch of Fonseca Ports of different quality and it came in second (in my opinion) to the '03 Fonseca vintage Port. Ahead of the 1970. Excellent value.

At $15 I can't complain. A very decent ruby reserve. Bottled in Feb 2022. It's lacking in the aromatic department; I just get a lactic note without anything floral or fruity. But on the palate it's quite solid. Not excessively sweet, or tannic, or spirity. Everything is in balance making for a pleasant after dinner drink. Will keep in the fridge and follow for the week or so it takes to finish. Day 5 update: It held up just fine …

Fresh, fruity, beaujolais-like, blackberry, crunchy fruit, super fruity. At the winery in Villa Nova de Gaia.

Tasted in zalto universal Decanted for 3 hours Nose and palate: Caramel, prune, fig, plum, chocolate, oak. Great and delicious. Kind of fatning out, put still powerful. 90 points Bought 2 bottles one of them was corked

2001 vintage

Not a fan. Some green ox, cloyingly sweet. Very dark color.

Eye: Dark purple center to a dark red rim. Nose: Red fruit. Black fruit. Light toast, and caramel notes. Strawberry jam. Very gentle touches of cacao and vanilla bean. Palate: Full bodied. Hot at 20%. Pomegranate juice. Really nice and yeasty. Strawberry jam again. Gently nutty. Finish: Short. Booze, red fruit, toast/nuts. Lightly bitter. Overall: A very serviceable, but not tremendously impressive Reserve Port.

Dull.

Dark inky in color with a short reddish rim. Full-bodied with medium plus acidity. Sweet on the palate with mild complexity. Showing black fruits with wood, vanilla, licorice, chocolates, tobacco, spices, coffee, mocha, cola and peppercorn. Nice finish with fine grained tannins and cherries. Easy drinking and good by itself as a dessert. 20% alcohol by volume. 90 points.

Sweet burned brown sugar overwhelms, simple sweet, sweet, sugar, why bottle such sugar and label it Port?

I’ve been enjoying this over the last week or so and still have half a bottle left. No drop in quality yet. Dark and brooding in the glass. Nose of dark cherries, menthol, blackberries, Amaretto, cola. Full and juicy on the palate, with soft tannin and fresh acidity. The sweetness level is dialed in about halfway, maybe a bit on the high side. Good budget ruby port that scratches an itch.

Tiny cork. LOTS of TCA cork taint. Bummer.

Great after dinner drink avoiding a vintage port which is more for special occasions.

Visit to Fonseca tasting room, Vila Nova de Gaia (Vila Nova de Gaia, Portugal) : Colour: intense purple Nose: medium(+) intensity, secondary, youthful. Blackcurrant, mulberry. Blackberry jam. Oak, sweet spice. Palate: medium sweet, medium(+) tannins, medium(+) acidity, high alcohol (20%). Medium(+) intensity, medium length finish. Blackcurrant, mulberry. Blackberry jam. Oak, sweet spice. Pungent/heat from alcohol. Conclusions: very good. Can drink now, likely won't improve with age.

Always a lovely, balanced port

Easy going with full flavours.

2001 Fonseca Qta d Panascal VP is still very dark in color. Nose has moved to more secondary licorice notes. In the mouth is a mix of eucaplutus, licorice, black berry, moderate tannins and good acidity. While showing some secondary notes, this is still a long way from fully mature. The only slight detractor, which isn’t a surprise for an “off-vintage”, is it could use a little more complexity. None the less, a very good surprise. 91/100

(cellardoor w ZM, DY) Leather and dark fruit. Nicely integrated. Palate has ringing purity and clean. Chinese root herbs, licorice, earthy clean notes. Inky dark in glass.

Nice. Great value!

Very nice everyday drinking port.

Very deep crimson, cedary bramberry-jam nose with medicinal hint, quite timid. Loads of acidity and heating alcohol reflects a muscular structure. Mouthdrying, although intense and soft tannins. Intense character of mint, black chocholate, real "After-Eight"-bite. Condensed with freshly roasted coffee-bean, dried plum and aniseed aftertaste. No sideways, straightforward. Although limited complexity. Organic vineyard (the first in Douro). Very good quality, athletic high-achiever in every sensation. Just not such elegant as Kopke. Would buy again for sure. Perfect for long saga-movies …

Tough to decant and filter this one... Showed beautifully though. Better on day 2. No formal notes but lots of depth and savor. Easy to drink. A classy single-quinta.

Lovely port, mentholated cherry nose, chewy fruity loveliness.

Portugal; 9/18/2016-9/25/2016 (Portugal) : 4 months to drink once opened. Nice nose with red fruit, almost a slightly floral quality; palate is full bodied, plenty of red fruit, cherry, plum; finish is medium length. More approachable, brighter, and easier to drink now than the 2009 LBV. 89

Gill's dinner. An excellent port, really balanced, robustly rich with a subtle fortification. Went well with both i) a rich & acidic summer pudding; and ii) a strongly flavoured tiramisu.

Fresh fruity vibrant.

Crimson-purple; black currants, wild blueberries, black cherries, wood smoke; sweet cherry, pruney, earthy, creamy, full body, good heat, excellent balance, ripe tannins, lingering finish. Dark and brooding with quality fruit, great balance and structure. Like a vintage port. Easy to sip on its own or with cheeses, figs, nuts, etc...

Continues to be my favorite NV Port. Very enjoyable!

This is really value for money. A very enjoyable, fruity, filling and quite complex port.

Port is not really my thing, so this is not calibrated. I do like the occasional tawny, but this was a bit too sweet and fruit dominated for me. It would be good with some sharp cheese.

This is such a great, balanced easy drinking port at a very attractive price point. Highly recommended!

VG+. Nutty.

Smooth and vibrant sweet dark fruit,a small hint of confected fruit, slightly heat on the finish. Overall nicely balanced and good QPR.

A bit muddled up on the nose with fruit ranging from cherry to blueberry and plum. A bit stewed character and showing some dusty wood and slight baking spice. Sweet medium to fullbodied palate with mid-level acidity, rounded fruit and only slight warmth. Nothing really sticking out - so pretty balanced in a muddled up way in here as well. The drinkability factor seems to be leaning more towards "Why?" than "Why not?". I'll probably check this out again tomorrow. …
