Minor, granular deposit. Medium magenta. Surprisingly youthful colour. 4% Viognier. Elegant loganberry and trace of plum, vanillan oak. Beautiful gentle elegance. Reeks of cool climate. Palate follows. Medium weight, elegant, good length. Deceptively soft courtesy of the Viognier. I’m genuinely surprised by how good this is. BlackBerry fruit characters emerging in the glass. Beginning to drink well. Good perhaps for a decade or more.

Relativt ljus och börjar anta tegelnyanser. Näsan väldigt burgundisk med körsbär, röda bär och lite mandel. På gommen fortfarande kolatoner vilka troligen kommer från ek. Väldigt generös och snygg Shiraz som dricks väl nu. Utmärkt.

Highly captivating and very distinctly Rhone-like shiraz- I don't just throw that description around for every lower-ABV syrah out there, but reserve it for new world bottles that really, truly do evoke memories of Northern Rhone examples. Despite the lack of "heaviness" this was still a powerful, pungent, dark, concentrated wine- not a new-school crunchy/bright syrah, but not a blackened booze bomb either. State by state Australian Shiraz tasting : feels more extracted (fact check?) compared to Castagna, much more intensity and slightly more body (med+). perhaps one of the most savoury (yet balanced wines unlike Swinney) wines of the lineup, but does not feel foreign. this element is more integrated into the wine. not much difference between the 2021 and the 2018 in terms of development, just very slightly.

Deep and complex bouquet with eucalyptus. On the palate the same impressions, red and dark berries, some menthol and beautifully dosed oak and cedar, beautiful acidity and tannin and an enormous length. Overall a mouth full of luxurious wine.

By Farr Shiraz 2018. Typical By Farr fruit, elegant and lighter style, no over oaked heavy Shiraz. Blueberry, smokiness, nice acidity. Possibly lacking some complexity, one-dimensional. I think their PN are exquisite! Drink or hold.

Already in a very good spot, floral, stewed blackberry, snappy acidity. Very well made.

Ruby with violet edges; Medium plus opacity. Blue and dark fruit, smoke, herbs, cherry, fat and pepper on the nose. Medium bodied palate but very lifted by superb acidity. Round, dusty/silky tannins. Clean savory bright fruit along a rising and, slowly falling off, profile. This was delicious.

Wow, these wines from By Farr! My first Shiraz from them, already really great but of course still a little bit young. On the nose, blackberry boysenberry, you could smell this wine all night. On the palate, great acidity and tannins in great harmony, dark berries and that feeling of limestone is here as well. A very elegant wine, great with food. A must buy for everyone. Drink from 2022.

Gourmet Traveller wine Victorian Shiraz (Winespace, Surry Hills) : Stalky, meaty, blackberry, defo whole bunch, oaky sweet spice, a little clay. Juicy acidity, the fruit strays to the sour side, tannins are grippy, drying and talc textured. Nah.

Den ljusa färgen bekräftar att detta är en nya-världen-kallt-klimat-syrah. Doften är förvisso fruktig men ändå komplex, slank och lite elegant. Jag inser snabbt att jag troligen dricker vinet för tidigt - jag tror detta mår bra av bara några år i flaskan. Det är bäbishull i mix av frukt, kola, chark (korv?) och tydlig lakrits. Ganska säker på att detta kommer att plana ut och liksom integreras - det är mitt intryck iaf. Men en otroligt snygg shiraz. Rekommenderas.

So much softer than Barossa Shiraz, oak is slowly integrating. Nice fresh soft yet elegant black, blue fruits with a rich finish. Barrel Sample. 20% Whole Bunch, 2% added Viognier, 20% new french oak for 18 months.

Big, bold. Dark fruits at this stage: blackberry and plums. Smooth on the palate and lovely full-mouth feel. I wasn’t as blown away as I have been by some of the Farr Pinots, but still excellent.

Pooley & By Farr New Releases (Prince Sydney, 40 Hansard Street) : Stalks, cream, blackberry that is quite jubey and, arguably, a little overripe, vanilla, quite new oak though I fid that hard to believe…On the palate though this is really quite atrocious - I couldn't get it out of my mouth quick enough.

By far amongst the most Bretty of Aussie wines, and with the rep for it too. This has an animally nose of the cowshed orientation (nice!), gentle ripe dark fruits, a depth of briar, a touch of spice, and some earth. Medium bodied, good acidity, well integrated oak and powdery tannins in the finish. With more earth and animal than many an Aussie Shiraz.
