Domaine Jean Grivot Vosne-Romanée

Shows a distinct "barnyard" (animale) funk on the nose, which I found to be a character-adding complexity. Classic Vosne spice and earthiness. It has aged into a beautiful drinking window where the fruit and savory elements are well-balanced.

Strawberry and raspberry, some earthiness. Medium bodied and elegant. High acidity, verging on tart. Long spicy finish with faint tannic grip. Very nice Pinot.

Very enjoyable, silky, quite a bit of acidity still there making it feel young. Still some woodiness and a little earthiness too, very elegant and good future. Try again 2/3 years +

dark red centre, with bricking rim. On the nose, mix of red berries and brambles, with some liquorice/camphor hint. on the palate, the medicinal lift is more pronounced, and not really in balance with the secondary flavours, giving a bit of high toned finish. Airing did not improve the balance.. not for me, and quite far from other 2017 Burgs I have enjoyed so far

Given a 2 hr decant, pleasant spicy aroma, some bricking on the edges. Well in balance and improving with time, decent length, strawberry/raspberry, and a sweet note that comes in on the back end; very good.

Beautiful. Elegant, light on palate, lots of red fruit and beginning to turn a bit more purple. Raspberry, cheery some cassis. Beginning to show a touch of spice and a more mature earthiness. Some very subtle liquorice on finish too? I think this absolutely hit the spot over dinner. Really beautiful and exactly how one would hope a Grivot Vosne would taste!

Talk about reduction, this was a textbook case of it. Took about an hour for the burnt rubber smell to blow off (in a decanter), after which I rebottled for transit and enjoyed over about 2 hours. From recollection, no Asian five spice in this one, pretty linear on the palate, maybe slightly thin on the finish. all primary cherry fruit with some earthy undertone, but not quite anything I'd call distinctly tertiary yet. I have the feeling this bottle was flawed. Very very reductive at start, and with hours of air some fruit came up, but very muted. Maybe going trough a closed phase but never had the reductiveness with Grivot.

Coravin and drunk almost immediately. Elegant with pretty red fruits, a touch of strawberry, mint and light earth. Vanilla and cherry tobacco also present. Silky tannins and long finish. Great for a village wine and could drink the whole bottle in one go.

This was at its best after I slow ox’d it for about four hours. I sipped it every hour along the way and it definitely needed the air to come into balance. Christmas 2023; 12/24/2023-12/26/2023 (Home) : Belying the reputation that 2017s haven't closed down, this bottle (plucked from storage to help us eat more cheese) seemed, er, pretty shut down. Shrill and funky for around an hour, then eventually some silky, floral, red fruit; the final glass was really quite decent. I will wait a while before opening another bottle...

(16,5/20) Concentrated and elegant Vosne-Romanée, but lacks a bit of character perhaps. Quite easygoing and that's not what I'm looking for in this wine. Medium intense aromas of cranberry, raspberry, blackberry, toast, tobacco, roast beef, wet leaves, black pepper. Some Barnyard , some red fruit and tobacco. Got better along the evening. Not that Vosne-like , had some mineral thing and Gevrey spice , but turned against the Vosne spice. Classic made . A bit short in taste.

Tasted at Domaine with Etienne Grivot. Sweeter purple and black fruits. Touch of tobacco on nose. Blackberry, cassis, cherry. Some pepper and liquorice along with Warmer spices. Quite concentrated and focused. clean but not showing huge complexity on the mid and end. Still very good village wine.

A more Classic Vosne then the Méo-Camuzet from same year. Had the Typical Vosne spice and a Long aftertaste. Blueberry notes and mineral.

Lovely earthy nose w. blueberries and tobacco. Integrated tannins and med acidity. A bit greenish w. blueberries and sour cherries. Wonderful texture and lengthy finish. Still a tiny bit harsh. Maybe another few years of cellaring would be required. Keep.

Spicy with lovely red fruit that turned to black with time in the glass. Long finish. Tannins are well integrated. Classic example of the 17 vintage and why it's fantastic.

@Kok og Vin Odense, Denmark, after white Burg tasting @Cru vin. First red of the night, after 11 whites. We all stuck our noses in the glass simultaneously around the table, and immediately exclaims of pure joy and the joy of anticipation was there. This wine was SINGING from the get-go. Quite pale with a nose more of mushroom and undergrowth than primary fruit. In this respect a pleasantly old-fashioned, from the days of less ripe burgundy, but the medium weight palate was modern and refined. Drinking well now.

Lovely sweet Vosne spice. But right now it's hidden by significant new oak on the nose and palate. Needs time to integrate. Was much better paired with Prime beef with red wine reduction than on its own. Much better the second night with crunchy red fruit, although still quite simple and hedonistic.

Color light garnet. Fast running legs. Great nose. Very floral - rose, lavendar and fruit blackberry. Secondary notes of moist forest floor. Acidity medium minus. Tannins smooth and soft. Less structred on palate.
