OK - I can't beleive I "cellared" this wine...but as things worked out - I did. I drank this over 3 days. Truthfully, I was expecting a disaster, but was surprised how "servicable" this wine was. I have cellared several "Chuckies" for fun and I am surprised how well they are holding up. This 2001 Merlot we drank Sept 2008. Good fruit flavor but starting to show its age. Should drink the remaining Merlots soon. More like a Shiraz.

This keeps improving. Nice upfront flavors and easy to drink.

Plum/cherry red; opaque. Gorgeous smoky, oaky/vanilla nose, with rich bonfire aroma; deep; fruit on the finish. Taste follows the nose - woody, spicy, mellow. Fruit reticent, doesn't stand up to the other flavours. Sour cherries come to dominate. Fabulously opulent, but falls a little flat on the flavour and the finish. Really good nose - totally my sort of thing. Palate lets it down. After a while, cassis character develops, an improvement.

Very good cherry flavors and decent tannin make this a nice, elegant merlot. Plenty of depth and character that make this better than most under $15 merlots.
