Decent wine, good to drink now and won’t go anywhere for a while. Nose developed after 3 hours of air. Dark fruits, bit of leather. Straight forward, reliable but not earth shattering.

Very dark red/purple color. PNP, areated into glasses and drank 2 glasses over 2.5 hours. The nose shows a burst of bright cassis fruit followed by black raspberry, touches of purple flowers, dried earth and charcoal. The palate is full bodied, sleek and satiny, cassis, boysenberry, strong mineral definition, with a really nice wood accent. Nice tannnins, medium finish, well rounded. 92+pts.

This is one of those cabs that was a little too "green pepper" for me and not enough berry & plum. But certainly a solid wine.

Enjoyed at Rio Wine Cellar in Las Vegas. Decanted and drank over an hour. Initially pretty tight, but air helped a lot, as did bringing it down to cellar temp. Dark fruit all around with dark cherry and blackberry, alongside slight graphite and a little bit of Rutherford dust. This was enjoyable on its own but have a feeling some more time or food would elevate this. 92 points.

Inglenook / Rubicon 1980 - 2019 Tasting Retrospective; 10/2/2025-10/3/2025 (Boston, MA) : Nose: Floral, graphite, blackberry and plum note right away. Go back again and you find the nuances of spice, eucalyptus and licorice hiding beneath some of the inky notes out front. Palate: Gives a balanced impression. Fresh blackberry, cassis, cocoa and powdery Rutherford tannin. This has an intensity in the mid-palate that is beautiful, but quite clenched today. Finish: Tight today and not showing everything that is there. …

Decanted two hours, moderate sediment, deep purple color. Aromas of plums, menthol and cedar. Full-bodied sour fruit on the palate with chewy tannins, a bit of heat and a pleasing finish. A ten-year-old brooding wine that may further improve with more age. I can easily imagine enjoying this wine ten years from now, if I live that long.

A classic Napa Cabernet, but one that shows real restraint and balance. The nose offers cassis, black plum and cedar, with subtle herbal lift. On the palate, richness is carried by beautifully preserved acidity, keeping the wine fresh rather than heavy. Tannins are firm but polished, framing the fruit without overshadowing it. Complexity is already apparent, though the wine clearly needs time in bottle to fully unfurl. Outstanding quality - an elegant, but structured Cabernet that balances Napa’s generosity with …

Solid; old school but still every bit a Cali Cab. Big, ripe and bold. Preferred it on Day 1 when still a bit more tightly wound. As it opened it became a bit fruitier and a touch less dry.

A Journey Through Napa; 5/18/2025-5/20/2025 (Napa Valley) : Solid wine. I had it at the Inglenook estate. Nothing truly blew me away. It was about bottom rung of the Napa wines for this trip. But I think that speaks to the quality of the other wines I had. I just remember it wasn't the most complex wine in the world.

Easter Wines with Family (Rocknroller's (Kevin & Vicki's Place)) : Very dark red color. PNP, drank a glass plus over 90 minutes. I opened this for my Dad on Easter. I didn't pay as much attention to it as the other wines, but it was solid. Blackberry, very dark silky smooth chocolate, velvety texture, plum, cassis, the signature dusty tannins, black pepper and some oak yet. This still feels like there's more upside to come.

Excited to taste this storied wine after reading James Conaway’s Napa saga but sadly the wine was a bit of a let down. Perhaps it was my mistake as I think my expectations should be measured against the Rubicon, but I would have expected the 2016 estate wine to pack a greater bunch. A bit of a muddle of red and black fruits at first, turning to Blackberry, vanilla, oak, smoke. Smooth med tannins. Med finish. Med flavor intensity. Very …

(at Frankie’s - Atlanta) This is good for sure, but I’m not really getting anything exciting. Deep garnet / purple. Nose is plastic blackberry fruit mixed with soap and mint. It’s better than it sounds but nothing special. The palate is medium. Medium bodied. Medium intensity. Medium interest. Enjoyable but very bland. I was disappointed in the QPR. (88)

Needs more time, having a 4% Cab Franc blend. It’s still very tight, requiring a lot of air. Loosened up day two. Inky an opaque all the way to the edge. Chocolate, black cherry, vanilla, leather aromas. The flavors were tight day one; tobacco, leather, earth, some chocolate. Day two some of the black cherry and vanilla appeared, along with anise and baking spices. Medium finish. It will deserve higher marks two to ten years from now.

Really gorgeous nose of creme de cassis, black currant, blackberry, dark chocolate, sweet, vanilla-tinged oak, black cherry and bay leaf. Med-full bodied with an open-knit texture that's loaded with wild blueberry, black currant, bay leaf and oak. This is probably the best bottle of this I've had and it is absolutely delicious! Beautiful now, but will reach age 12-15 in fine shape! 93

Aroma of coffee bean and green bell pepper, cassis, black currant and cedars oak. Medium to Medium-full bodied, this has moderate tannins of good quality, flavors of cinnamon, sweet black currants and crème de cassis as well as vanillin oak. Very dark red/purple color. Decanted and drank a couple glasses over 3 hours. Pretty cassis and bright dark berries on the nose, a little more savory as it opens, aromatic dried spices, mushroom, and dried wood. The palate is has creme de cassis, damp earth, dried wood, spice, glycerin, still some firmness on the tannins, though as this gets air, they do loosen considerably. Showing well for it's age, and just at the start of the window. 92+(+)pts.

The 2016 Inglenook Cab is a excellent bottle of wine. It has all the characteristics of a Cali Cab, and it has just the right amount of everything. Blackcurrants, Cassis, and a bit of Tobacco. The wine is not overripe, nor is it over oaked. Drink now, or hold. Decanting is recommended. Is it worth $70 a bottle? You bet!

How did this wine not get more accolades? I decanted 15minutes and you can taste its fruit core wrapped in a tight package by iron ore minerality. It reminds me so much of a 2009 ornellaia I tried 3 months before this (the ornellaia has even more minerality and I would say more elegant) but this is still an amazing wine with spectacular qpr coming from Napa. Looks like some napa wines are still punching above its weight price wise.

Wonderful, mature expression of Napa Cab. Surprisingly forward and supple for the structured vintage and doesnt need decanting for air. Tertiary notes have started with forest floor elements and cherries and dark chocolate cocoa but with a nice zing of red fruit acidity to boot. It may go on for a while but based on this tasting enjoy now while its in prime drinking window with resolved tannins.

I thought this was well balanced with graphite as the most identifiable taste, and a decent restaurant choice given the limitations.
