Just entering the window. Complex nose, red fruits, strawberry, cherry, cranberry, layers of spice, anise, perhaps cinnamon even? Smooth in the palate, again, a hint of spiciness across the tongue, very very long finish. Perfectly balanced, drinking so well now, needs time to open up, years ahead still but you wouldn't regret opening one up now.

Another classic Leroy Boudot. Though the wine over time is getting more restrained. The nose is there but needs time in the glass before you get a hint of the classic Vosne spices come through. Classic Burgundy color. On the palate, you can taste the somewhat rustic structure of the Nuit St Georges tannins along with the elegant Vosne fruit.

Powerful and crisp with black cherry fruit and a strong cut of minerals. This is not a shy wine with plenty of power and firm acids and the finish is intense and firm with a wall of delicious dark fruit and spice. Very good now even if a bit dry on the finish but it should surely last and perhaps become more complex in time. At Vaucluse, NYC.

Nose is intricate and incredibly floral, combining both Vosne spice and Nuits earth-driven rusticity. Big perfume. Blue and purple berry fruit when cooler and roasty / zesty tomatoes when warmer. Palate is very textured with red and black fruit, currant. A certain texture and tomatoe leaf that is reminiscent of many DRCs. A lot of fruit but also a lot of earth. Damp coffee grounds. Big and tannic. Seemed to grow with time open. Impressive.

Stunning wine especially for a NSG. Deep dark ripe berries with a full middle and real intensity and energy. Rather big and beefy but maintains finess as well and there is a really fantastic crunchy mineral complexity on the finish. This is a joy to drink now but will last quite some time.

Simply a fantastic bottle of wine. Coming off the Leroy dinner, it was a joy to appreciate this on it's own, as the sole red wine of the night. Yes, it is flashy and stylistic, but also balanced, pure, and polished. A great bottle in a great drinking place.

The Leroy Boudot '98 is simply phenomenal. Opened at a dinner along with a '07 Meursault Perrieres Lafon. We let it sit for about 2.5 hours before touching the Leroy. I had had the '98 a few months ago along with a La Tache and we finished it without decanting it. That was a mistake. This time after a 2 - 3 hour decant, the wine was breathtakingly amazing. As others have mentioned, this rivals the La Tache in its …

Like FYC said in the note below, we opened it side by side with a combottes from 98. The wine had more of an earthy feel to it than the combotte, while the combotte was high toned fruit, the boudot was darker more masculine fruit flavors. But after a couple of hours, you could barely distinguish the two, the combottes was a LITTLE brighter but the texture and nose were near identical.

Opened 8 hours prior. A bit angular at first. Really opened up at dinner to show dried fruits, black tea, a touch of spice. Very similar to the 98 Gevrey Combottes by the end of the night. Very tasty and in need of air if opening now.

Dried berries... Not a great bottle... I know there are better examples of this wine than I had, unfortunately...

Bottle No. 1596/2044 I got this bottle from the shop Auge in Paris. (Sep.2012) Dirty label and level was not good but I really love 1998 Leroy so I have to buy it. Then... Opened it for 1.30 hrs, the nose is very elegant, not over-did, sexy and very beautiful fragrant. Is this NSG ??? Feelin' like drinkin' La Tache, aromatic, Wowww...better than I ever expected. Texture is very smooth, hints if beautiful sweetness. Wine so good !!! After 3.30 …

David Niederauer Monday Wine Dinner - Yquem, Burgundies, SQNs, Massandra (The Plumed Horse Restaurant, Saratoga, California) : Slightly cloudy, bricking, medium raspberry red color; tart dried berry, dried cherry nose with a touch of orange; tasty tart minerally red fruit, cinnamon, orange and dried cherry palate; medium finish (WOTF for me and the group)

Seattle Tasting Group does Burgundy (Seattle, WA, USA) : The nose shows resin and graphite with a hint of cardboard (not like the moldy smell in TCA, just a bit papery). The palate is very sweet, cloying in fact. With air this settled down a bit and showed some depth, but it was very frustrating to see how sweet this was.
