Nose of dry blueberry, blackberry, forest floor and anise. Tarte and medium to full bodied. The finish is dry fruit for a while, then Forrest floor. Quite complex and enjoyable.

Clear, deep ruby. Perfumed. Medley of raspberry and blackberry, peppermint and Christmas fruit cake. Beautiful balance. Fine tannins. Integrated alcohol and high acid. Ripe black fruit, meat, bacon and blackberry jam. Young, but drinking well.

Wood, muted fruits, not showing much aromatically right now somewhat more delicious on the palate. chewy medium+ tannins with excellent to outstanding length. I wouldn't drink this now, but I'd hold for a few years to see if it improves. but right now it's either past its prime or just in an awkward place

Carafé 90 minutes. Nez de fines herbes, d'épices, de cerises confits, de petites baies...bleuet, et de notes de grillées. Les tannins sont poussiéreux. Un vin fruité, mi-corsé avec umami. Finale moyenne. Laisser au cellier encore 2-3 ans.

Good glass to drink during the week with a nice barbecue. Nothing to complicated and enough northern Rhone syrah spiciness. The bouquet definitely shows a little 2015 heat with darker notes than normal. The palate has some dusty granite, but is also quite round with less acidity than normal. Will be interesting to see, how it develops with some more bottle age.

First night - but of an over-alcoholic mess; had a couple glasses after letting it breath for an hour Second night - left corked overnight (vacuvin) at room temp; still had a lot of alcohol but there was a short window of some good black fruit with smooth, medium length finish. This wine may get better with time

Left out overnight, upgrading a point as this brought out a nice aroma of blackberries and mint, and a bit of blackberry flavor. I generally stick to my earlier review though. Respectfully disagree with other reviewers who get a lot of fruit, still mainly oak and spices. Agree there is minerality, if thats what you like in a red.

First bottle of six. Decent but far from great. Required some time to open up. Fruit quite subdued, flavors were dominated by black pepper and spices.

2015 Cave de Tain Saint Joesph Esprit de Granit was opaque deep purple in colour without any sediments. First opened, it showed an array of ripe dark fruits, like blackberries, blueberries and dark cherries with subtle violets aromas. With two hours of decanting, oak flavours of vanilla and graphite emerged. The mouthfeel was intense, full-bodied and spicy with medium-high level of ripe tannin. Medium-high acidity and mineral quality kept the vibrancy of the powerful wine. The finish was long with …

Medium body, black fruit, leather and some pepper. Excellent with Francine's oven-roasted leg of lamb.

First bottle of 6 corked; second bottle reminded me of a good Rioja - very pleasant indeed.

A private dinner (Brasserie Fou d’O, Ghent, Belgium) : New world in style, sweet black fruit, toasty oak, low acidity, ripe tannins, flavoursome but not too heavy (13.5% ABV), hint of dryness on the finish, good length. We chilled it slightly, and this worked wonders. But clearly more Esprit de 2015 than Esprit de Granit.

Quite similar to the other 2015 Cave de Tain wines. Purple, dark berries, very spicy and very nice acidity that gives it a perfect balance. A bit more mineral than the Crozes and Cornas. Probably best to keep for a number of years.
