I opened 3 bottles for Christmas to pair with a Chapon stuffed with morels: Chateau Montrose 1992, Chateau Talbot 1987, and Damilano Barolo 1958. Montrose 1992 was the most austere wine of the flight. Cork was in good shape but very dry. No fruit anymore, quite rustic, and but somehow paired well with the morels. It shows the difficulties of the vintage 1992. Talbot 1987 was the pleasant surprise, given the vintage and the cork was in bad shape. Still …

Let me start by saying that I love old wine. I enjoy the unique flavors which emerge from over-the-hill red wines. Well at 25 years old I must say it is still kicking. Slightly unbalanced as the acidity seems to be more dominant over the fruit, yet this wine is still quite enjoyable. Aroma's are iron, aged leather, coffee grind. There is still some fruit with dried cherries, underbrush and plum skin. Finish is earthy and has lingering prune flavors. …

At peak or perhaps slightly past it. Nice straightforward barolo, no edges, medium bodied with a short but pleasant finish.

Opened several from a single purchase and all were vastly underwhelming. Turbid, uninteresting and tired in the glass. With an overdeveloped, prune-like nose not at all mingling with top-flight Barolo. Normally I quite like wines from Damilano. But this was completely past it. Not damaged, maderized or otherwise flawed. This was just barely drinkable. I poured most of it down the drain.

WIML92 Tasted non blind. Dark garnet color in the glass, clear looking throughout. Nose of dishwater, pepper, cardamom, black berries and basil oil. Flavors of black berries, cherries and raspberries. Bright acidity, medium to firm tannin, full bodied. Drink over the short term, perhaps into the medium term. I'd lean towards sooner than later.

Another lovely Barolo we found in the cellar. Drinking great, but may be on the backside of it's drinking window, as it seemed to lose a lot of flavor by the 2nd hour. Big wine, soft tannins, well integrated, leather on the nose, balsamic, mushroom, plum, truffle on the palate. Drink now or within the next couple years. It may develop tertiary flavors with more time, but hard to tell at this point.

Quite light and pretty for the vintage. Classically styled nebbiolo in an elegant package. Not a stunner, but nice for the price. Drinkable now, but should keep aging fine for a long time.

Opened for about an hour prior to dinner, and then about 15 minutes in glass. Brick in color with a very pretty nose of flower and red fruit. Balanced wine there is still some dried cherry fruit and some earthiness. Silky tannins with a fresh acidity. Medium to long finish. Very well done. Clearly at its peak but still seems like some years are left in it.

Opened a few hours before and then poured into glasses and probably should have taken the time to really decant this. In the end it showed just fine but it didn't blow me away. It was fine aged Barolo and prob a touch tired. I think I am getting to the realization that the best barolos are in the 20-30 year range where they've had time to 'grow up', but still keep some of the fruit.

My previous notes till apply. Needs at least an hour of decanting to let the "funk" subside, but after that its still drinking quite nicely. Drink while you can because may not last much longer.

Lighter color -- consistent for Nebbiolo Nose is a bit shy, with pretty red fruit and some raisin Palate still shows significant tannin and med+ acid with med body. Nice red fruit that is still youthful and juicy. Med finish. A nice wine that is tasty without being profound. Still quite youthful for 19 years. A great bargain for less than $30

opened 2 hours prior to tasting good red color with aging brick throughout, a great and meaty texture and taste is its most immediately evident quality, cherries and leather on the nose, dark thorny bramble, a generous but also serious fruit on the mid-palate, good length, I wish I had more time with this as there is much more to it than this note can tell, seems near maturity to me but time in hand, this is my first encounter …

Gathering at Brian's (Brian's Home) : Balsamic vinegar, high toned cherries and hint of herbs on the nose. Palate is smooth and creamy with vanilla oak, ripe cherries, some dark chocolate and leather. Felt sleek and modern and well made for the style. Just not my type of wine, though.

Initially this showed red cherry, pepper, earth with a mild tannic bite. At hour 2, this wine showed it's beauty with smooth complex notes of darker fruit, earth, leather, tar, and some hints of a dusting of cocoa powder. At hour 3 some of the tannins and cherry reemerged on the finish. Best from hour 2-3. Tasted from decanter over 4 hours.

Bought the Canubi bottling at auction and got this on delivery instead. Still the wine was fantastic. I am glad it turned out great even though it wasn't the bottle I was expecting. The nose is quite potent, full of mushrooms and soil, wet forest floor, damp cellar. The palate is lively and bright, full of fresh red fruit. This bottle has some secondaries on the nose but the palate is still so fresh. There are some tannins left and …

Very pale, developed and translucent brick orange color, close to old tawny port. Colorless, watery rim. Somewhat stuffy and a bit overaged nose with aromas of sweet volatility, smoky oxidation, a hint of nuttiness and a whiff of alcohol. Full-bodied but rather one-dimensional on the palate with very developed flavors of ripe red cherries, loamy earth, soud-bois, some sour cherry bitterness, a little bit of oxidative syrup character, a hint of dried dark berries and a touch of blood. Bread …

I have had several of these before but never wrote notes on the wine. An intense aroma of licorice from the glass emerges as you swirl the wine. I had this decanted for an hour and the tannin's were still intense if not simply shutting down the fruit. It had the coloring reminiscent of a much older wine. It began to turn more garnet after 3 hours as the brown colors faded. It had a palette of deep and i …

I found this to be a better wine than I was expecting. Given 1) the mediocre reviews, 2) let-down of the 2000 vintage and 3) fact that this is not single vineyard bottling, I was expecting less, but the wine delivered. Nice solid colour right out of the glass, even a bit darker than average. Paired well with hard cheeses, salami, bread, nuts, olives, ... plate. Wine showed its age in its color: brownish dark red. There was a subtle sweetness like muted hazelnut on the nose. After some decanting this medium bodied wine opened up and showed a nice balance between fruit and terroir. Plump raisin is the most prevalent flavor.

Arlington "Port" Wine Club - Italian Night : Showed really well considering that many don't consider 2000 a long-lived vintage and this was a "villages" Barolo. Dense with concentrated fruit that still retained some freshness. Wild berry, earth, and mushroom characteristics. If anything, this was most similar to the 2003 Bordeaux, sharing some ripe vintage characteristics.

Brought this to a company small department lunch at an Italian restaurant. It was very well received and perfectly complemented the various red sauce dishes. Got comments such as well-balanced, good fruit, moderately complex. Coincidentally, a local wine merchant had a sale on it the following day and one of the people at the lunch bought a half case.

Brick red in color made we wonder if this was past its prime. First taste fresh from the bottle showed lots of tannins and acidity - and not much else. But letting it breathe in the glass for over an hour made a huge difference! Light floral on the nose, full flavors of cherry (cola?), lots of vanilla and some hint of anise on the finish, full bodied but still light on its feet. A long finish goes on and …

Raspberry, earth and spice notes on the nose. Takes over three hours to truly open up. At first, seemed soft, open and accessible. But the longer it was open, the denser it became, the more it added complexity and it deepened in color considerably. Showed beautiful red raspberry with just hint of cherry in the background. Smooth throughout, but with outstanding tannic structure on the finish. I don’t think this wine is even at peak yet. So much fruit and …

Problemer med korken som smuldret opp. Transparent burgunder/murstein/cognac farget hel klar vin. Opened and poured. Not the best stemware used. Maybe a bit darker than a candy apple red. Aroma: jar of newly opened marciano cherries then turning a little earthy. Palate: Was expecting a tannic monster but was pleasantly surprised of the balance which made the wine appear more elegant. Still fruit forward of ripe bing cherries.
